This update from The Hill doesn’t sound encouraging. A bipartisan group in the Senate have met for weeks to hash out some needed reforms to the Electoral Count Act and firming up protections for election workers in the wake of the 2020 debacle. Among the areas of broad agreement are restrictions on challenges to electors and a formal recognition of the already-extant ceremonial role played by the Vice President.

The word “reform” means “act of vandalism” to leftists.
While I like the notion of LA County getting one electoral vote, I don’t think you’re reasonable.
However, if we were to rewrite the electoral college, I’d like to see each district voting separately. A standard algorithm which minimizes the average number of counties per electoral district could be used to prevent gerrymandering. Non-citizens shouldn’t be counted. Dems could no longer rely on running up the margins in the big cities (90%+ majorities) to win big. I could imagine 50, 100 or 435 electoral votes all working.
The VP’s role may be “ceremonial” now, but it wasn’t meant to be. It was meant to be a real thing.
That’s not fair, but it will never happen so no point debating it
I believe you are right. And challenges to the electors are typically done at the state level, not the federal. Not that any of this matters in our “democracy” (sic).
What you propose would require a Constitutional Amendment and I don’t think you’d ever get the majority needed.
However, the best way to understand the Electoral College is to look at a map showing the county-by-county voting and remember that the Founding Fathers set up the Electoral College so that the President should have widespread appeal, not narrow appeal.
In 2020 Trump won 2,589 counties; Biden won 552.
In 2008 Obama won 869 counties and got 69,456,897 votes. In Biden’s 552 counties he supposedly got 81,281,888 votes. So that means that for every 100 votes that Obama won in his counties, Biden had to win 180 votes in his counties to get to his vote total. It’s just not believable.
Even Mrs. rktman can see that's not fair.
I prefer the method that Maine and Nebraska takes in awarding Electoral votes. Whomever gets the most votes statewide gets two electoral votes. Then whomever gets the most votes in each congressional district of the state gets one electoral vote.
That would change the dynamic on the Left from only having to win the largest city in a state in order to win the entire state's electoral votes.
Your example of Nevada, there are four congressional districts, so a Democrat might the overall state vote and two electoral votes, and win two of the congressional counties that surround Las Vegas for another two, but the Republican would probably win the other two districts for two electoral votes.
Agree. Here is what they CLAIM they are wanting to re-legislate— Verbatim the Act of 1887:
What they want to change is: US Code Title 3 Chapter 1 § 15 - Counting electoral votes in Congress:
“Congress shall be in session on the sixth day of January succeeding every meeting of the electors. The Senate and House of Representatives shall meet in the Hall of the House of Representatives at the hour of 1 o’clock in the afternoon on that day, and the President of the Senate shall be their presiding officer. Two tellers shall be previously appointed on the part of the Senate and two on the part of the House of Representatives, to whom shall be handed, as they are opened by the President of the Senate, all the certificates and papers purporting to be certificates of the electoral votes, which certificates and papers shall be opened, presented, and acted upon in the alphabetical order of the States, beginning with the letter A; and said tellers, having then read the same in the presence and hearing of the two Houses, shall make a list of the votes as they shall appear from the said certificates; and the votes having been ascertained and counted according to the rules in this subchapter provided, the result of the same shall be delivered to the President of the Senate, who shall thereupon announce the state of the vote, which announcement shall be deemed a sufficient declaration of the persons, if any, elected President and Vice President of the United States, and, together with a list of the votes, be entered on the Journals of the two Houses. Upon such reading of any such certificate or paper, the President of the Senate shall call for objections, if any. Every objection shall be made in writing, and shall state clearly and concisely, and without argument, the ground thereof, and shall be signed by at least one Senator and one Member of the House of Representatives before the same shall be received.”
“protections for election workers in the wake of the 2020 debacle.”
Do they mean protecting the ones seen on videos pulling boxes of ballot from under tables after they sent home most other workers and then ran those ballots through counting machines four or five times?
Who could have seen that headline coming?
99.00 to 99.75%?
The simple and ONLY solution for vote fraud at least for maybe a generation is electoral count based on congressional district which is where the electoral count comes from. A candidate would have to win a majority of Congressional districts with only the 2 senatorial Electoral votes going to the majority of the state. That is actually MORE constitutional than what we do now and would not need an amendment as Nebraska and Maine already do it. If WI, MI,PA, OH had done that when the R controlled all those states, Obama would have not won a second term. Vote fraud would have to be so decentralized and diluted and complicated.
The Act wascreated by REPUBLICANS to prevent another Southern Democrat Tilden (who had enough electoral votes to just win, throwing the election to the House) . A situation which required a “deal” to be worked out, giving the Presidency to Rutherford Hayes. The deal was- the Southern Bloc of Electors for Tilden would place their votes for Hayes, under the signed agreement for Hayes to remove ALL occupying Union Army troops occupying Southern States all that time since the Civil War.
These occupying forces provided military tribunal cover for carpetbaggers who stole titled property against US and State laws, took over lands, homes under the Reconstruction created largely by Secretary Stanton (and for which President Johnson- Lincoln’s VP was IMPEACHED for stopping the most thieving actions of the Reconstruction boards, Freedmen’s bureaus and Military Governors. Haye’s people agreed to Tilden’s forces and they gave over the election to Hayes, and return the whole country to much needed peace. The reaction to the “deal” is what caused a “Counting” Act to be passed. So, naturally the demonrats want to change it or remove it when MAGA republicans wanted to follow it— and challenge the electors in the STOLEN states. Pence did not perform his duty under the ACT.

You’re not far off.
I suggest that we encourage the States to adopt the same formula that Maine and Nebraska use. That is, Electors are assigned based on the number of Congressional Districts carried. One District = One Elector. The Senate Electors are assigned based on the popular vote in the State. This way, Republicans in upstate New York are enfranchised as are Democrats in Texas. easy, peasy.
“Every county in every state gets one electoral vote which goes to the candidate that wins that particular county.”
That should be “every congressional district”.
“Every county in every state gets one electoral vote which goes to the candidate that wins that particular county.”
Iowa has 99 counties
So 99 votes you thinkin’? 😅 70+% of nevaDUH’s votes are in Vegas.
How about the old Mundt amendment?
One vote for the winner of each Cong. dist with the two Senate vote going to the overall State winner ?
Thank you for the wee bit-o-history!....................
Does put the current actions in context... demonrats and Beltay Cheneybots and Rinos trying to close any possibility of their theivery in the future from being challenged by ANY ONE OF THE STATES. This being the nail in the coffin procedurally to what they hoped was a FEDERAL central controlled Election eliminating the Constitutional function of each State’s counting and process. As state clearly in the Constitution.
We of course agree, that Pence knew about the challenges, and chickened out (bumping elbows with... Pelosi!!?) performing his very NON-ceremonial function of conducting the Electoral College count by State as accepted by each States Legislative delegates (which of course it was NOT, and in so doing SHOULD have turned the election over to the HOUSE, where the Republican delegates by State numbered more for each states SINGLE vote. And Trump would have won the Election on a Constitutional basis).
Sorry— it is the “wee” bits that matter. Precision, and.. truth. Keep up your great work, and continue to Badger the HELL out of these “watermelons” (greenie/red interiors) and blatant Reds!
The Electoral College was put in place from the vast experience in the old Europe when FACTIONS took over from not apportioning the votes per each “STATE”.
Alexander Hamilton put this in— and is one thing he did correctly to prevent “bulk” voting creating a “democracy” that is NOT representative but... a MOB!
