Jersey Shore is different than CT’s “Gold Coast”.
Definitely, though there are some exclusive areas along the Jersey shore. When our children were younger we’d take them on day trips and vacations to the dry towns there - no alcohol at all (former Protestant summer camps that became towns). Ocean City (by Atlantic City) is a great example; clean (no Snookies), tons of minivans (a lot of PA plates), and everything closed by 9:00 pm...
I have a sunny, but cold, day here in middle Tennessee. I think I'll call it "Sunny Day Terence".
Good luck shoveling all of that global warming!
There is too much reliance on computer generated weather models and not enough real-time analysis of observed data these days.
Sometimes nature can reveal when a big storm is on the way. For instance, seagulls leaving the beaches and flocking to rooftops of large building further inland is always a clear sign of a coming northeaster in New England.
I trust the seagulls more than I trust the Weather Channel.
The cracking branches is indeed a bad omen. I'll never forget that sound. My family (who were prepping for a Halloween party that night) was initially saying "what's wrong with you?" as I was scrambling to acquire gas and candles and set up the tarp under which I set up my generation outdoors etc. We tried canceling the party but people traveling from South Jersey kept coming. Then the ice on the roads became a problem, and then we lost power. As the Boy Scout motto says, Be Prepared. Parenthetically, the party was pretty cool with candles, and the generator meant we could go in and out of the fridge to serve the guests. Fun fact: coffee makers draw incredible amounts of power such that the generator chugs audibly when the coffee maker kicks on.
As a small side-note, nothing made my heart race like a power failure during a downpour when the sump pump was going off every minute. Backup and preparation and readiness are good skills to be developed and refined...a big storm every now and then is like spring training.
That makes a lot of sense; just as the Amish aren’t wrecked by COVID because they don’t watch TV, the seagulls are prepared for bad weather because they don’t watch TV either...

Only if you have had the 4 or 5 fake vaccinations, and make sure to wear a mask.
Massachusetts is a man-made disaster.
Apparently she just passed away this previous summer.
Blizzards of ‘93. Why I moved to Florida in ‘94. NO MAS!
Hell, in Northern Illinois this kind of snow is just a typical winter day.
And yet, your porch chairs — which are much lighter that the gas grill — show no sign of disruption.
“I grew up in Buffalo. That is nothing.”
No kidding. Buffalo has had its share of real winter storms.
Soda vending machines are another big culprit of suddenly drawing a lot of power, causing power drops in whatever else is plugged in on the same circuit.
My first house had a sump pump that ran continuously from about October to April. So always had to be prepared with a generator or my entire basement would get flooded within minutes. Eventually I put in a backup system that involved a marine battery and a backup pump. That did the trick.
The last time I visited Chicago was on business a few years ago.
The snow was horizontal—I never saw any snow actually hit the ground!
I don’t think the old CT WASP culture could handle dry towns.
“Ice storms are the absolute worst. I would rather have three feet of snow than even a moderate ice storm.”
I agree with you 100%. Snow I can deal with. Ice...well, it’s a different story.
It was a time-honored tradition in Philadelphia to leave lawn chairs as a holder for your shoveled-out spot. And if some dope took your spot, let’s just say a ten spot to some of the local youth usually resulted in frontier justice.
