I don’t think the old CT WASP culture could handle dry towns.
We have them in north Jersey as well; Rutherford NJ (right next to East Rutherford, home of the NY Giants and Jets) is a dry town. They are anomalies because NJ actually treats drunk driving fairly lightly compared to other states (maybe a holdover from the Dutch liberalism of the original New Netherland founders of northeastern NJ); it isn’t a crime here but a driving offense. It is a double-edged sword, as you don’t get a criminal record but you also can’t get pretrial intervention, trial by jury, or expungement (stays on your driving record permanently). Even more strange, lawmakers here are trying to change DUI license suspensions to accommodate jobs (you can’t drive except to and from work).
