Very well written, very reasonable. *applause*

I wish we were all like you.

My mother had severe COPD and other serious health issues. She passed away before Covid, but I well remember being terrified of bringing any flu virus (or *any* germs) to her. Quite the routine I went through. We just need to lighten up and not make unkind assumptions about others.

It’s true that wearing a mask (of any kind) is no guarantee you won’t catch Covid. Far from it. It’s also true those silly cloth masks did diddly squat. And it is likewise true that mask mandated made no difference (you had people using bandanas and flimsy cloth masks, people with the mask over only the mouth or only the nose, people with ill-fitting N95 masks (which can be the worse than no mask). People not handling their masks properly.

Disposable surgical masks do offer *some* protection. A properly-fitted N95 offers more. Provided you wear and handle them correctly.

I know people make a big deal out of how the virus is so tiny it can “slip right through” the “fence” of a mask. In reality, the little stinkers mainly ride in tiny aerosolized droplets, which are too large to “pass right through” a proper mask. Proper masks use more than mere mechanical filtration; they also have an electrostatic layer which traps the virus — boosting effectiveness from around 35% to over 90%.

Are they perfect? Absolutely not. But they do help. Again, provided they are worn and handled properly. Yes, you can still catch Covid, although you may get less of a viral load and therefore a milder case.

I’m not sure why it would be less obvious, with so many pro-maskers out there getting into the face of those who are not wearing masks. There was a ‘Nancy’ (as in Pelosi) who was yelling at a person for not wearing a mask when she herself was not wearing a mask. She was literally spitting in the face of the person at whom she was yelling. Totally contemptible.

Thank you for your thoughtful response ... truly ... but the data from two years of forced masking (and the knowledge I have gained from my more than a half century of hands-on direct experience with the use — and significant limitations of such PPE) provide effective counterpoints to each point of your argument. Cheers!

“I do hope that all this will be over very soon thanks to Omicron.”

And just in time for the start of the Pennsylvania Monkey virus pandemic.

Thank you. That's very kind of you.

I also believe many of the people who took the shots - and as I've said, I'd never call anyone names over a personal medical choice that isn't my business - are incredibly unhappy at their lot. In short "I took theses shots because you promised me I could get back to normal...now you tell me even if I get boosted I STILL have to wear this mask and stay 6' away in the checkout line!?!! Oh, and I have the ADDED JOY of telling my CHILD this 'yeah, back to masks...sorry about that' story, who after crying through the needle I promised we could get back to normal?!?!"

Now, those unwashed unvaxxed losers are seen in a different light. And, to be fair, maybe the more strident unvaxxed evangelists have some sympathy for the vaxxed. We tend to remember Romans 12:19 and forget 12:20-21. Or... to use the vernacular, quoth Johnny Rotten: ever have the feeling you've been cheated?

I said early in the pandemic, that forced homeschooling changed the minds of many citizens about homeschoolers. In short, they found that the MSM "they're all racist right-wing wackos" demonization was contrary to their first-hand experience with homeschoolers who came to their assistance more than their School District, and didn't turn out to be so weird and evil after all.

I believe (hope?) we are seeing a similar turning point, where the people who took the shots are seeing the unvaxxed as allies and not The Enemy. And visa versa.

On those rare occasions I wear a mask, I start coughing uncontrollably. I think I inhale cotton or paper fibers.

And that makes people stay far away. :-)

Doing my informal survey at the Publix, I’ve noticed an upsurge in masks, even double masks and face shields. I live in Florida, where it’s not mandatory, btw.

I unfortunately live somewhere where masks are required indoors and I've noticed while driving more people then ever before wear their masks while driving in their car. There are people who are going to need therapy to get rid of their fear of covid after the last two years.

"A Covid viral particle is around 100 nanometers, material gaps in blue surgical masks are up to 1,000 times that size, cloth mask gaps can be 5,000 times the size."

That is comparable to putting up posts that are 5 miles apart to keep someone from driving their car into a lot.

I am unvaccinated. Been like that for two years. I wear a mask inside grocery stores where a lot of people are now because most of the vaccinated unmasked, oblivious-who-think-they-are-Covid-free DON’T.

I was in a Walmart the other day and some old lady with her husband there without any mask, she coughing up her guts and barking at hubby to get this and get that. She was behind me and every time she’d inch up on me I’d turn down an aisle just to get away from her.... had to do that three times.

Why? Yeah, I know the masks don’t stop virions. I just didn’t want her to blow snot, spray and mucous on me - which would contain her virus-she-thinks-she-doesn’t-carry....

Masking has devolved into virtue signaling, except among the few truly terrified.

Its utterly worthless in preventing the spread of something so tiny as a virus. What it is is a sign of one’s obedience to the diktats of government even when completely irrational.

For that reason I never wear one in a grocery store or elsewhere even though its supposedly required in this state due to our idiotic Democrat Governor. I notice more and more people are no longer bothering with the face diapers when grocery shopping either.

It’s nuts. I read that somebody on that lousy female freak-out program, “The View,” said that even if they didn’t require it in New York, she planned to wear her mask for the rest of her life. It makes her feel secure. (From what?)

These people are nuts and they’re in charge.

We have elements in America who have such unfulfilling lives that they seek validation through saving others (anybody, really) from some danger that they themselves are unaware of and, if necessary, against their will.
