Biden Weighs Deploying Thousands of Troops to Eastern Europe and Baltics
NYT ^

WASHINGTON — President Biden is considering deploying several thousand U.S. troops, as well as warships and aircraft, to NATO allies in the Baltics and Eastern Europe, an expansion of American military involvement amid mounting fears of a Russian incursion into Ukraine, according to administration officials.

The move would signal a major pivot for the Biden administration, which up until recently was taking a restrained stance on Ukraine, out of fear of provoking Russia into invading. But as President Vladimir V. Putin has ramped up his threatening actions toward Ukraine, and talks between American and Russian officials have failed to discourage him, the administration is now moving away from its do-not-provoke strategy.

In a meeting on Saturday at Camp David, the presidential retreat in Maryland, senior Pentagon officials presented Mr. Biden with several options that would shift American military assets much closer to Mr. Putin’s doorstep, the administration officials said. The options include sending 1,000 to 5,000 troops to Eastern European countries, with the potential to increase that number tenfold if things deteriorate.

The officials spoke on the condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to talk publicly about internal deliberations. Mr. Biden is expected to make a decision as early as this week, they said. He is weighing the buildup as Russia has escalated its menacing posture against Ukraine, including massing more than 100,000 troops and weaponry on the border and stationing Russian forces in Belarus. On Saturday, Britain accused Moscow of developing plans to install a pro-Russian leader in Ukraine.

That’s BS. Crimea was RUSSIAN since before the USA had a Constitution, when Catherine the Great kicked out the Ottoman Turks.

Khrushchev transferred Crimea to Ukraine to secure the support of Ukrainian bosses after the death of Stalin.

This would be like Long Island being transferred from NY to CT for electoral votes in a close election.

An Army RCT in the Ukraine would either be a trip wire or a speed bump. Trip wire means tac nukes at least. Speed bump means 4K to 5K casualties and a delay of maybe 3 days for rhe Russians

I’m betting that the unvaxxed terrorist in the ranks will be, miraculously, collected and sent in the first wave...

Cannon fodder...
Like the bastards did with untrained reserves in the early months of the Korean War...

The neocons see an endless sales pipeline of $$$ missiles, shells, aircraft etc.

Especially now that the cash pipeline via A-stan was closed.

IF (and thats a big IF) the government was really worried about Russia invading Ukraine they could make a deal to drop the pointless sanctions we put against Russia after they “interfered with our elections” which turned out to be mostly nonsense.

BLM and Antifa will take care of anti-war protestors. They won’t let anyone interfere with Biden’s War.

That’s been a minute. Back then, Joe Biden could almost string together a coherent sentence. Things are far more polarized now. The Left doesn’t really care about peace. Of course, they never did, but 2+ decades ago, some of their foot soldiers did.

Just curious, does Eastern Europe and Baltics have any say in this?

Obama sent the 173rd to western Ukraine and far away from the theater of war. I expect Biden’s handlers (Obama?) will do the same. I don’t think they will theatrically deployed the 82nd for Fort Bragg or whatever it is called now.

Yeah…but he doesn’t have to go.

Declarations of War are there for a reason. A small war in a far off land that has zero to do with the US would not garner any support.

Democrat party most certainly wants to get us into a war. Maybe their voters won't agree with this, but I suspect they'll go along with whatever the Dems do.

I personally believe that US policy against Russia is formed inside China. Neocons are their agents.

US leadership is outright owned by China, but yet, somehow, are dead set on weakening/breaking China’s partner, Russia.

That makes no sense unless a weak Russia is in China’s interest. Perhaps China wants to drive Russia into its sphere of influence, but why, given it already owns the most powerful country... the US, does China need Russia?

I think China wants to break up Russia and in the process grab Russia’s Far East. Right next to China’s largest corn producing province (Heilongjiang) is Russia’s largest soybean producing oblast (Amur).

If Russia and the US fight, China wins. If the US loses, China is the most powerful country. If Russia loses, China grabs Russian land.

I think the US is the tool China is using to attack Russia.
