Recent Cuban immigrant and college student shocked by peers' perception of socialism, seeks to dismantle it

A Cuban student enrolled at Syracuse University said he was stunned by the way his fellow students perceived socialism.

Justo Antonia Triana studies Classical Civilization and Political Science and writes poetry, articles, and narratives in both Spanish and English. He also moved to America in 2019 after his father filed for a family reunification after leaving Cuba five years earlier.

In a column for The College Fix, Triana highlights the most startling thing he found in his new home: A sharp misconception about politics in Cuba.

"Many could only think of the palm trees on a beach, but the first impulse of others was to repeat the magic words with which the international left justifies the tyranny: ‘free healthcare, free education, American embargo,’" Triana wrote of what he called the "distorted idea" people had of life in Cuba.

Nobody knew about the constant mental siege in which Cubans survive: the strong political indoctrination and the forced cult of the personality of the leaders, the communist propaganda thrown at us by all the media, the absolute repression of individual thought, the impudence with which the government dictates and controls everything in our lives," he explained.

His interactions with fellow students and his teachers, and hearing what they thought of life in Cuba and the socialism the leadership enacted, drove Triana to share his life experiences – a privilege he noted would land him in jail in his homeland.

I wish him luck, but the odds are against him in most colleges

That’s not “real socialism” will be the response.

Actual Marxism has nothing to do with reality.

Actually, I think most of them know about these things quite well. They long for the day that they can be Party leaders, censors, dictators, secret police agents, prison camp commanders, executioners.

This guy should become a teacher. We need more teachers spreading American Values and the truth about Socialism rather than indoctrinating our kids for 12-16 years.

Some of the most ardent anti-communists I have ever encountered are either from Korea or Latin America. One guy in our jiu-jitsu club had relatives killed by communists, he was Hispanic. He hated communists to the point of wanting to shoot them.

I had a co-worker a long time ago who was from Cuba.

he smuggled himself into the States.

I felt bad for him cause his wife and kids were still in Cuba.

Some Co-workers went with him to strip clubs cause I think they felt bad too.

He was allowed to go back to Cuba once a year to visit his family. finally after lots of money and like 10 years he was able to bring them here and get divorced.

Never heard that as an excuse to go to strip clubs before. I feel more sorry for his wife and children.

That is true for people from every communist country. Almost everybody who escaped knows somebody who died as a direct result of what the government did. And for many of them their own experience escaping involved great risk, the loss of loved ones, and terrible traumatic experiences.

Communists and socialists bring death and suffering wherever they take power.

I live in a very rural area, but I once met a Cuban who escaped to the U.S. with his parents in the 1960s. He told me to never vote Democrat. I assured him that would never happen.

This why the Biden regime is aggressively turning away Cubans from a border open to almost everyone else.

You bet it doesn’t. Contrary to what those on the left think, there is nothing in the constitution to support redistribution of wealth.

law of the land.

No!

He needs to tell his story. It is about the real world of marxism/communism and he experienced it.

So did the new Att. Gen. Of Virginia, Myaries, as versus the weak minded coward Mayoris of DHS who supports Biden and his quasimarxist policies. Some people learn and teach. Others deny life and end up Democrats.

As we who were in Vietnam and or Cambodia like to say to critics of our efforts to preserve freedom them, “If you weren’t there, STFU”.
