Fewer Than 1 in 6 Americans Want U.S. Soldiers in Any Ukraine-Russia War: Poll

Fewer than one in six Americans want U.S. soldiers deployed to defend Ukraine if Russia invades the country, according to a new poll published on Friday, as high level talks got underway in Geneva.

A poll from Convention of States Action (COSA) in partnership with the Trafalgar Group found that just 15.3 percent of likely general election voters believed the U.S. should provide troops as "boots on the ground" in the event of an invasion.

The figures came as Secretary of State Antony Blinken met Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov for talks in Geneva with tensions between Russia and Ukraine remaining high.

The COSA/Trafalgar Group poll was conducted from January 12 to 14 among 1,081 likely general election voters and has a margin of error of +/-2.98 percent.

The Trafalgar Group enjoys an A- rating from poll tracker FiveThirtyEight. ...

Deploying troops had the lowest level of support, while 31.1 percent of respondents supported providing supplies and weapons.

A further 30.5 percent agreed that the U.S. should provide "only diplomatic area pressure," while 23.2 percent supported the U.S. providing military advisers if there were an invasion.

What would you propose we do to stop it, B-52s, F-35s taking out Russian command and control, swarms of A-10s destroying Russian armor at the border? Have you ever read about the process by which 90% of European wars have started over the last 400 years? Have you written your congressman demanding he support printing the trillions you’re proposing we borrow to accomplish these goal?

The USA has lost it’s moral authority to intervene militarily anywhere.

When Russia is moving massed armor around in its own backyard, nothing, other than nuclear weapons, provides anything more than a slight speed bump.

Sorry that could have been said about China (1951), Vietnam ( 1968) and or Iraq/Afghanistan ( 2003 ). No nukes will be fired in a first stile by any belligerent. There is no scenario for that to happen, there is no one that will EVER pull the trigger first.

I am surprised It is that high. Direct US-Russian confrontation would be a disaster for the whole war. But there's a very wide range of decisions between US going to war over Ukraine and cheering another Russian invasion.

I assume you are somewhat of a student of history, brinksmanship, escalation and the inadvertent starts of most of the wide ranging European wars. If all of that is true, you might be somewhat of a student of history but you are a total bust at judging the leadership nature of overly armed, dictatorial, paranoid regimes. Our current US regime isn’t the only you can study. A volume of 20th century European history might be beneficial for you.

One would think the European nations would be preparing, not America. Looking at the map, it appears to be a European area conflict.

There's like a million of things that could be done without direct military involvement. Just like there's a million of non-military methods to oppose the expansion of China. Besides, If Russia really wanted to invade Ukraine, we wouldn't be hearing about it in the media since weeks. For now they are just testing... They are checking what would be the cost of invading and annexing parts of Ukraine, Kazakhstan etc. Dudes like you make them believe the costs will be low so at some point the invasion will really break out. In the end the activities of “anti-war” pederasts have always led to the actual wars.

I’m not talking about positioning and talking political BS. When Russian tanks are rolling across the border how can it be stopped. Everything else you’re talking about has zip to do with pushing Russian tank corps out of the Ukraine. The same with Taiwan. Trump would have been able to economically deter a Chinese recovery of Taiwan. That economic horse is gone and the barn done burned down though. With Chinese troops landing on Taiwanese beaches do you torpedo CCP troop ships? Again, I’m talking about when some neocon cowboy or SJW dipsh!t has already blundered us into an actual shooting war with a nuclear equipped super power.

It would only be another war that will be dragged out so the military industrial complex can make its profits, until Americans get tired of it. Why would we want our sons and daughters killed and maimed in another war that our government has no intention of winning?

It won’t happen If they know the costs will be high.

“These days I come here mainly to track enemy’s propaganda.”

You are correct, and it is beyond obvious. No pretense or subtlety at all.

I am aware of a couple of people, who have been monitored for at least a few years now. Now some of the regular folks on FR who have been well groomed, are examples of Kremlin propaganda efforts.

Years ago, the first time I saw FR was near RIA Novosti in Moscow, where I was being ushered through, and a few Russian guys were monitoring a handful of conservative sites. One of those screens ju just happened to be FR.

Think about that...

Now they have a good percentage of FR lapping up whatever they throw out there.

Pretty sad.

Where did I propose stopping Russia? Our space program relies on their rockets getting our astronauts to the space station; I know this is all just theater for the little people.

If you WERE interested in stopping them, arm their enemies with weapons to shoot down their aircraft; it is how we got them out of Afghanistan and how they got us out of Southeast Asia.
