You are so 60s. MAD applied when total destruction was assured between two, then three factions. An Indian/Pakistani nuclear exchange is a very real possibility that could happen and would be regional and limited (they don’t have the weapons to even approach MAD). There are no MAD guarantees for the majority of the members of the nuclear club unless they attack three specific nations out of the 195 potential target nations. As the credibility of the American nuclear umbrella continues to fade, many of the now exposed nations will have no alternative than to do what de Gaulle had the foresight to do, an independent French nuclear deterrent with a French finger on the button. Look for South Korea, Japan and what are considered western leaning Arab nations to follow the de Gaulle lead. Bottom line, MAD is not a credible deterrent to most nuclear club members using the bomb regionally and the nuclear club will continue to expand. I’m sixty five and will more than likely see a nuclear exchange somewhere in the world in my lifetime.

I felt sorry for Cindy Sheehan because she didn’t convince her son he shouldn’t enlist. Since the architects of the Vietnam War have gone public admitting so many mistakes and mis-steps (ruining the lives of hundreds of thousands of Americans and millions of Southeast Asians), people should think twice about doing that.
