People who have been vaccinated against COVID-19 with a history of infection were best protected against infection from the delta variant, followed by people who were unvaccinated and had recovered from a previous infection, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said.
Those who survived a previous infection but were unvaccinated were also better protected against the delta variant than people who were vaccinated alone.
“These results demonstrate that vaccination protects against COVID-19 and related hospitalization, and that surviving a previous infection protects against a reinfection and related hospitalization,” the agency’s researchers reported on Wednesday.
The report analyzed infections caused by the delta variant last summer into the fall in California and New York. Scientists found that vaccination combined with recovery from previous infection provided the greatest measure of protection against infection from the delta variant, which became the dominant strain last July. Meanwhile, people who were unvaccinated but survived infection, conferring what is known as “natural immunity,” were better protected against severe illness due to delta than people who had gotten vaccinated but not recovered from infection.
“Importantly, infection-derived protection was greater after the highly transmissible Delta variant became predominant, coinciding with early declining of vaccine-induced immunity in many persons,” the report said.
Compared with COVID-19 cases among unvaccinated people who had never been infected, people who were unvaccinated but recovered from an infection were about as well-protected against hospitalization and death as people who had double protection from vaccines and prior infection. COVID-19 case rates were 7.2-fold lower in California and 9.9-fold lower in New York among unvaccinated persons with a previous COVID-19 diagnosis. Among vaccinated persons with a previous COVID-19 diagnosis, case rates were 9.6-fold lower in California and 8.5-fold lower in New York.

Where does Rand go to prosecute the CDC people who swore there was NO EVIDENCE that natural or acquired immunity provides protection?
Didn’t read the actual report, rather than the article, but prior studies of this did not do a good job of declaring what vaccinated meant.
Meaning, protection 2 weeks after completing vaccination vs those who recovered from a prior infection. Compared to a vaccination 7 months old, vs those with a prior infection.
And the prior infection people also will have that protection age. So . . . I didn’t look at the study, but it will have to address the age of the immunity, or whatever sort, for it to mean anything.
They likely didn’t.
The United States is one of the few countries who do not recognize immunity received from recovering from an infection. It does not reflect well on our leadership.

I just gave the report some time. There is mention of a large Israeli study and a large French study that found that previous infection lost its protective capability over time. These studies were not confirmed.
The problem with survival of a previous infection is (assuming you’re old) 1) you have to survive it. The old often do not. 2) There has to be a documented test and given so many claims of false positives, you can’t be sure a prior infection occurred. 3) All infections aren’t the same magnitude. A mild infection may confer weak immunity vs needing hospital oxygen that would challenge the immune system to be stronger.
This contrasts with vax, that has no false positive issue, that most old people survive, and all recipients receive the same dose.
Discussing this issue for the young is pointless. They were never at risk of death.

One of my best friends is being forced to resign from his position as a Battalion Chief after 35-year career. He came down with Delta a couple of months ago which was confirmed with PCR tests and also antibody tests. He is able to use these test results and his medical records for confirmation of immunity for foreign travel. But our governor ordered that all firefighters in our state be fired if they are not vaccinated. He is acknowledged by everyone on the department to be the most knowledgeable and valued Battalion Chief working for the department. Our governor is acknowledged to be the most stupid governor in our state's history.

I would point out that even in extremely aged groups that the vast majority of persons infected with Covid also survive. And all recipients receiving the same dose has no proven advantage to those receiving the vaccination. One size fits all solutions are rarely to any one's advantage in any type of situation.
The only advantage that vaccines have are preventing serious illness when efficacy is high. Currently, efficacy is not high against Omicron as is demonstrated by massive numbers of “break through cases” in highly vaccinated populations worldwide.
And yet my wife, who has tested positive for natural antibodies, received notice today that she will be terminated from her hospice care job if she has not taken the shot by February 13th. Based on her experience working with nursing home residents she will be replaced by some tattooed gangster-looking kid who sits in a chair all day with his nose in his phone while residents are laying soaked in urine in their beds. But he will have taken the shot so he meets the government criteria for health care workers.
Americans of caught onto the scam so Covid hysteria can no longer take the left us where they want to go. Now they will pivot to some other fake disaster they have invented.

Oh, I was comparing the same dose vs casual infection, the dosage of which in the infecting inhale is not known.
Vax weakens for sure. I would think in a few months death protection is probably down by 1/2.
Casual/natural infection we don’t know their dose during inhale. If it was a mild case, probably not many virus particles created defense.
As to vast majority, the numbers are *the reference case (18-29)* 65-74 were 64X more likely to die, 75-84 120X, and 85+ 470X more likely to die.
It’s always been pretty hard to address “vast majority”. That would require intentional infection of 85 yr olds to see how many live. That study is never ever going to happen. So you can imagine vast majority, but there is no evidence of that. Only different deaths among age groups.
It really is an impossible study. You have variant changes, seasons, different numbers of cases (virus totals) in the world outside the nursing home. The only way to test for vast majority is to infect intentionally 100,000 85+ folks and see how many live. That will never happen.
Can’t ignore them. It’s popular to say all they are losing is weeks, but Soc Sec keeps tabs on this stuff. They say the life expectancy of an 85 year old is 6 years. Quite a lot of life left.
