How good is China’s most advanced fighter jet, the J-20? The J-20 is a “fifth-generation” combat aircraft, which ostensibly puts it in the same league as the U.S. F-22 and F-35.

Last I heard they were having engine manufacturing/reliability issues - blades primarily.

The Chinese have a huge army and a huge arsenal. However almost none of their soldiers especially NCOs junior and mid-level officers have seen combat, its general staff has no experience in large combined arms operations and virtually none of the arsenal ( jets, ships or drones) or their operators have been tested in combat. If the people of Taiwan were to put up a determined resistance, the purported invasion across 90 miles of open ocean could be an unmitigated disaster. If the PLA loses and takes unacceptable casualties, Xi, his family and acolytes would be deposed not in a gentle manner. The bitter military, in the midst of political instability, conceivably could stage a coup against the corrupt communists. A failed invasion of Taiwan would be an economic disaster as well for China.

Very much doubt that Xi, despite the big expensive military buildup, will risk everything with an invasion of Taiwan.

I used to do contract work for Pratt & Whitney. One cubicle had a photo of a defective part "made in Red China", the ring that goes in from of the engine was badly bent.

I would think Xi would just make it a war of attrition rather than lose.....even antiquated equipment...IF he can get enough dudes across the water. Thousands of container ships!!! Can’t sink all the containers, maybe?

He could break out the fleet of ultralight aircraft attack troops!

CCP new book reveals problems with J-20 fighter jets during test flights

https://youtu.be/08Obme2U8P0

Serious engine problems, they had to use Russian AL 31 engines, the PLA are still 30 years behind the USA in the manufacture of engines and engine materials.

In other words, push the J-20 engine too hard in combat and the engine blows up.

I was going to say the J-20 has one fatal flaw: it was built by the Chinese.

I would to hear that a flight of these had suddenly disappeared from radar and gone missing over the South China Sea

Do foreign clients have to buy them in blister packs of four, like at Costco?

There are some updated conversations regarding the sampan civilian navy internal migration approach.

The chinese will send a sampan navy with 10million “internal migration” civilians armed with CNN uplinks, cameras, and bullhorns. When they get mowed down by our side, the resulting negative PR will be amplified by the chinese knocking out 2 of our aircraft carriers in the blockade with their hypersonic ICBM thermally guided antiship missiles.
America will luze stomach for the fight over what it already calls an internal province of China. Taiwan has never declared independence.
About a third of civilians in Taiwan are ethnic Chinese and maybe only half of them have loyalties and fifth column tendencies towards communist China. They have hundreds of thousands of cargo ships they can fill with civilians armed with cameras, CNN uplinks, and bullhorns.
The resultant slaughter will be live on CNN and the PR backlash will be enough to let China walk right back into their own internal (never did declare independence) province. If we blockade them, they’ll lob thermal-capable antiship ICBM missiles at our aircraft carriers and CNN will record them sinking to the bottom of the sea with the resultant nuclear plume.
America will luze stomach for the fight after luzing a couple $Trillion in carriers and tens of thousands of men in one afternoon, all seen on CNN, with our recourse being... to slaughter civilians. China has all the cards, they just have to lay them down on the table at this point.
And when it’s all over but the shouting, the RINOs and GOPes and democraps will be handwringing, hoping for a quick way to order chinese chips & electronics from Amazon. The chinese want the continued business of globalists so it’ll all be “can’t we just get along” and “water under the bridge” as soon as China is in charge and chips are shipping.

The J-20, was designed using stolen plans for Lockheed Martin’s F-22 Raptor.

We are way beyond that technology already.

Bottom line is pilot experience. We have so many F-22s and F-35Bs that our pilots train at over twice the flight time of any other combat aircraft.

No one keeps them running like we can.

The CCP’s philosophy in Korea during the UN Police Action was that “Quantity has it’s own Quality”. My oldest brother who was there in the 3rd I.D. told me how we mowed their human wave assaults down like wheat and trapped them in artillery kill zones. Towards the end they couldn’t get their veteran troops to attack. Only their green units would do it but not for long.

Way more than plane capability is needed for a successful platform. Pilot skill. Maintenance. Multilevel interface with other resources.

I concur and I’ll add that it is highly unlikely that Japan would sit idly by as the Chicoms attempted to invade Taiwan. Taiwan’s fate rests in Taiwan’s hands.
