Djokovic confirms he is leaving: "I cannot stay in Australia and participate in the Australian Open."

In a statement released after his appeal was dismissed on Sunday, Novak Djokovic said he would cooperate with authorities in arranging his departure from the country and confirmed he would not be playing in the Australian Open.

He said that while he was "extremely disappointed" in the judge's decision, "I respect the Court’s ruling and I'll cooperate with the relevant authorities in relation to my departure from Australia."

He will now take time to rest and recuperate, he added, wishing good luck to fans, staff and players at the Australian Open.

I agree with you. I’ve never felt like I had a dog in this fight. In fact, if I were Djokovic I never would have fought the initial deportation order. Australia is a sovereign country and it can treat its visitors as well or as badly as it wants. I would have just said “Good riddance!” to the ‘effers and gone home.

They are still democracies. The majority of people in Australia and New Zealand are NUTS who worship government. They WANT to be told how to live every aspect of their lives!

A lot like NYers and Californians. They LOVE the shit they roll in! When California re-elected Newsome by a huge majority....

You cited: “...with the Immigration Minister saying that “as a high profile un-vaccinated individual ... Mr Djokovic’s ongoing presence in Australia may lead to an increase in anti-vaccination sentiment in the Australian community, potentially leading to an increase in civil unrest of the kind previously experienced in Australia with rallies and protests which may themselves be a source of community transmission”.

I think the crucial word here is “ ...MAY lead...”. In essence, Djokovic is being punished by refusal for him to earn a living (as for the most foreign players) not for his actual transgressions, but for the possible ones (as they may be defined by Australian government officials). And that firmly places the said officials in the same group with Soviet communists, German Nazis, and all other fascists’ regimes. Sad day for Australian people to be associated with such a “distinguished” company...

You're right. Right now they are covidist cult nanny states. They are way off track now and they've isolated themselves from the world the past two years. The longer they remain isolated from the world, the harder it will be to get them back on track. Japan was isolated for centuries. Maybe our cousins Down Under will do that? Especially with covid-19 becoming endemic and it'll never go away. We've moved on here in the U.S. Will they be able to accept the risk of pursuing "normalcy" with the virus?

So whomever wins the tournament should have a giant asterisk next to their name.

“Nadal is a coward and it’s in his vested interest that Djokovic not play, so whatever he says isn’t worth the paper it’s written on.”

Nadal didn’t say for him not to play, he doesn’t care. He said:

“If he’s playing finally, OK. If he’s not playing, The Australian Open will be a great Australian Open with or without him.”

He’s defending the tournament whether he plays or not as this whole screw up by Djokovic is being turned on to the country and not Djokovic who caused it. And the US does the same thing so he would have been denied entry into the US for the same reason. His last test was in mid December and it was positive. And he further made his entry more difficult when he ignored the test results and did a promo with people right after the test without informing them and maskless.

“Australia is disgraced by their actions...”

Maybe so. That is an opinion shared by many. But blaming them for a tennis tournament player messing up and trying to get by is not grounds for starting a civil war. It’s their country, their problem. And the media coverage for this insignificant situation, as the US does the same thing, is blowing it out of proportion. He didn’t follow the rules.

“...they’re the ones that suffer from this idiocy.”

I agree with your conception as to who are the players in the political part of this. But how can they be suffering unless it is through the media when 18 of the top 20 in the world are scheduled and they followed the rules. None of those 18 are from Australia as the first Australian player is Alex de Minaur at #34.

I get the feeling that Djokovic screwed up and he’s trying to bully the country to allow him in special when he could be still positive. And he’s doing it with the media and not up front himself. And that I find just as dishonestly done as the liberals in the US do it all the time.

But blaming them for a tennis tournament player messing up

- - - - - -

He was deported because he was not vaccinated and the minister thought it would be a bad example.

So what you call ‘messing up’ is not taking a vaccine he does not need due to having natural immunity. That’s not messing up. That’s not being an idiot.

“IF that’s true, then why didn’t the Australian Govt. use that as the reason to revoke the visa?”

They did:

Novak Djokovic, the world’s No. 1-ranked men’s tennis player, traveled all day Wednesday from Dubai to Australia…
On Thursday, he was told he would need to leave the country, following a 10-hour standoff with government officials at a Melbourne airport, where he was held in a room overnight over the validity of his visa and questions about the evidence supporting a medical exemption from a coronavirus vaccine.
Djokovic did not immediately leave the country, and his team filed a legal challenge to the ruling on Thursday. A judge said Djokovic would be allowed to remain in Australia at least until Monday as his lawyers awaited a hearing.

He had a positive test. He “had” Covid and now is NOT infectious. If all the “vaccinated” people are now “protected”, what is the point.

You have no clue how viral infections and humoral versus cellular immunity function.

As for Nadal...I would think that he’d be a stand up guy for a fellow tennis player... but he isn’t.

As for any issues about medical and health information..... notice the bald spot on the back of his head, large jaw and “remarkable” stamina for a man his age?

He’s a PED using clown and a f’ing coward. He most likely uses Hgh, Epo, insulin, Nuvigil, testosterone supplements and who knows what else to maintain his incredible stamina and recovery at his age. He knows that now is the time to get another major and get an asterick record for most majors.....

The minister published this point of view after Djokovic entered Australia. So according to you, not having mind reading powers is screwing up.

“He has exposed stupidity at its finest”

So he did this by ignoring rules and trying to get into the country using invalid information that he is trying to justify after apologizing for it.

He tried to get by without the vaccinations overstepping the country’s rules and then tried to strong arm them in the media by remaining in the country to fight for something he, either, did or was trying to do for himself, only. Everyone else, as far as we or the media knows as they would have added to it, did it correctly.

“It’s not a penalty...”

The penalty is that he is not going to be allowed into the country as per rules just like the US has and uses on everyone. So his stupidity, or his attempt at dishonesty, is what was really displayed here.

No thanks necessary.

Nope. The rules to enter the country have been established long ago in Australia and he didn’t follow them. Not paying attention to the rules to get into a country where his job takes him to try to make money for him and his sponsors is not an accident. It is a screwup.

That being a bad example due to not being vaccinated was cause for deportation was established by the immigration minister after Djokovic entered Australia.

What was this man’s crime?

He didn’t get a shot that doesn’t work. In fact it may be causing deaths of athletes. Plus he had natural immunity which does work for a disease with a 99.9% survival rate.

Bad Novak. Deport him!

This has certainly created a lot of publicity for the Australian Open. I would have thought it already happened and was over by now.
