Critics excoriated California Gov. Gavin Newsom and his fellow Democrats Thursday over a set of videos showing the shocking aftermath of looted trains in Los Angeles.
The videos, posted on Twitter by local CBS photojournalist John Schreiber, showed massive amounts of opened packages, cardboard, and packaging materials strewn around the tracks.
"Keep hearing of train burglaries in LA on the scanner so went to [Lincoln Heights] to see it all. And… there’s looted packages as far as the eye can see. Amazon packages, [UPS] boxes, unused Covid tests, fishing lures, epi pens. Cargo containers left busted open on trains," Schreiber wrote, before further detailing what his team found at the scene.
Critics took to social media to blast Newsom, as well as members of his party, for their handling of the situation, with some suggesting it was the "new normal" for Californians. Others lamented that Newsom was still the governor at all.
"Nice work [Democrats]! This is the end result of many of your 'policies.' You let people steal up to $950 worth of merchandise, you let people live on the street (many criminals), you defund police so they don’t have the force to stop this and kill our supply chain; [this] happens," wrote Republican congressional candidate Robby Starbuck, while Fox News contributor Miranda Devine questioned where the police were while this was happening.

Theft from interstate shipments is a federal crime. Perhaps the locals have no authority on railroad property, unless invited, but the law is quite clear about the thefts being a federal jurisdiction. The statute is quite broad to encumber possession of property taken from interstate shipment.
No. Just move the ports-of-entry to the Southern Eastern US. Sure, they’ll have to move the stuff through the Panama Canal, but it all WILL get there without being destroyed by a state FULL of illegals, homeless and disaffected minorities. What’s worse? Replacing EVERY package we see, or paying a little extra in shipping costs. We report, you decide...
Back in the old west the looted stood the chance of getting shot by a regular citizen.
The saddest fact that so many miss is that these policies often harm those they claim to help or represent the most.
Inner-city communities already have fewer retail or service sector options than other communities for this very reason and it will grow far worse. Drug stores, grocery stores, and retail establishments are leaving the inner-city because they cannot afford to do business there.
This not only deprives those communities of shopping options it RAISES prices with less competition and there are fewer entry level jobs available. The schools already suck and are not very safe.
I would say its sad but it mostly makes me very angry. Children and the elderly pay the worst price for these policies. Every time. In a sane world more people (even “liberals”) would recognize the truth of what I just wrote.
The push for “woke” ideology will be paid in blood and tears by depressed communities. The rest of the nation will pay in other ways for generations and not only in higher taxes.
This is only slightly worse than most of the separate-from-traffic bicycle trails I ride. And this isn’t new.
Apparently we will now require a wall between the west coast states and the rest of the usa

A headline elsewhere says Newsom is in the enviable dream position being a state governor with a budget surplus in the billions.
He’s on top of the world and smiling broadly now.

Hey, FBI agents and law enforcement, if you want our respect again then go to work and arrest the BLM, the freelance persons of color who carjack and beat people, and the many Dems who are committing crimes as we post.
