CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A “realistic” guerrilla war will be fought across two dozen North Carolina counties in the coming weeks, with young soldiers battling seasoned “freedom fighters,” according to the U.S. Army.
The two-week “unconventional warfare exercise” will be staged Jan. 22-Feb. 4 on privately owned land. And it will be realistic enough to include the sounds of gunfire (blanks) and flares, the U.S. Army John F. Kennedy Special Warfare Center and School said in a news release.
Exact times, locations and exercise specifics were not provided.
However, advance publicity is intended to make sure civilians — including law enforcement officers — don’t mistake the fighting for terrorism or criminal activity, which has happened in the past.
“Residents may hear blank gunfire and see occasional flares. Controls are in place to ensure there is no risk to persons or property,” the warfare center said.

Yes, I see your point. They always do teach modern military to fight against guerrillas, which is essentially what many “insurgents” abroad are and what the Americans were in the fight against the British. So that’s reasonable.
The South has a lot of mountains and difficult terrain, so that’s also reasonable.
Still, it’s pretty bad optics. NC is a blue state (thanks to Asheville and all the retired professors), so it’s not an attack on the South in general. But I think they should have done this in Upstate NY, famous home of Revolutionary War guerrillas.
The “guerrillas” would be anyone who voted for Trump and/or people don’t the Democratic party. That’s how Democrats see us.

I wouldn’t worry about it. The Army’s longest “wars” have been fighting guerilla type warfare and they never do really win.
They are preparing for careers as green berets. This is the Robin Sage phase of Special Forces Qualification and has been going on for decades, and many of the locals participate eagerly. There was a big SNAFU back in 2002 when a deputy was unaware of the exercise and shot and killed a Special Forces trainee, so they've tried to be a little more open with publicizing the exercise since then.

I don’t know. I think manly warrior was correct, this is pretty routine. My son trained throughout the swamps of Florida, for example, and then was sent to the deserts of SOCAL to train for even more horrible stuff in the ME (locked in a box with the Islamic howling broadcast through it all the time).
That said, if push comes to shove, the only places that might resist bizarre federal oppression would be some Southern states (but not NC, which is basically a blue state) and a scattering of Western states - SD, Texas, possibly Idaho, and who knows about some of the others after two years of federal oppression.
So I don’t think we should panic, just be alert.
I’d guess there are 5 times more military veterans on the streets, than exist in all the active duty military personnel.
No, we should never panic but we should be aware of the larger picture.
Exercises of the past cannot be equated with what is happening today.

When I was in the Army back in the 80’s, my company was doing a field exercise where we were doing a patrol in a semi-final area.
We went into a trailer park on the edge of Ft. Lewis near the Nisqually River...a real, non-military trailer park. There were ‘opposing forces’ (one the other platoons) hidden in the trailer park. All of a sudden, the OPFOR attacked, and we returned fire. Now, we were using blanks, of course. It was a short engagement,
Within 2 minutes, a Pierce County Sheriff’s deputy came driving in, lights going. He stepped out of his car...with his shotgun in hand. One of the sergeants yelled out “These are blanks!”. The deputy replied “ This isn’t shooting blanks. Drop your weapons!” We did.
It turns out the 1LT who put the exercise together failed to tell anyone in the trailer park that we were going to be doing this. They then thought there was an honest-to-God battle taking place...and called the cops.
When we got back to the barracks, the LTC in charge of the battalion was livid...to put it mildly. The lieutenant was busted down one grade and transferred out of there forthwith.

You might be right. However, we currently have only woke-ass, communists leading our military. They hate us more than the Taliban.
The counties listed are very red and the Army has been conducting exercises, some really large, there since before WW2.
