Yesterday I had a Invasion of the Body Snatchers moment when three of my neighbors started quoting Justice Sonia Sotomayor and even adding a little bit claiming that hundreds of thousands of children were in the hospital on ventilators dying from Covid. Under my breath said, "That is pure propaganda." This is the reaction that I got as they shouted me down.

I am retired so I have a little extra time to follow Covid. If you watch/listen/view local news, there is very little covid news reporting. They will provide a case/death count and PSA info from the local/state health departments. My county has a halfway decent covid dashboard. After nearly 2 years there has been zero deaths for the 0-10 age group in my county of ~210K. There has only been 2 death reported for the 10 to 30 age group.

We want to move to a place that is like where you live and are working on getting out of here. Our local news starts with Covid hysteria, takes a break for Snowmageddon, and a few minutes of commercials, goes back to Covid hysteria, has something about the threat from people owning guns. Then it ends with more Covid. Whenever I wonder why people are getting so freaked out, I just turn on the local news. People around here give you dirty looks when you are not wearing a mask at the gas pump. You need to produce a vaccination record if you want to go to local restaurants.
