The omicron variant and a heavy winter storm have temporarily reduced staffing in Philadelphia public schools, leading more than 40 to switch to remote learning starting Monday.

At least 46 public schools in the Philadelphia School District will be "100%" remote from Jan. 10 to Jan. 14, the superintendent of Philadelphia's school district, William Hite, said in a statement released on Friday.

Heavy winter storm? It was a couple of inches which melted within a day.

The kids are far better off not attending school in Philadelphia.

Remote learning could have the effect of eliminating most classroom teaching positions.

Why have so many teachers when one gifted and telegenic teacher can present information to tens of thousands of kids at the same time?

Especially well-done presentations can be recorded and repeated annually.

And, home schooler's parents can select the most suitable content, n'est ce pas?

The teachers's unions demanded to be at the head of the line for vaccines.

They got their way.

That wasn't good enough.

Then, they demanded that all students be masked muzzled.

They got their way

And now THAT isn't even good enough!

Our kids are 2 yrs behind already.....we’ll end up with students stunted in their education before this is over.

Observe these students learning at home and you see parents or caretakers aren’t keeping them occupied at learning....and it’s fast becoming obvious.

Our district had a snow day over 3 inches of snow on Friday. I think the real reason is that they have so many teachers and students sick with omicron that they are having trouble functioning. The parents are really mixed about virtual vs in-person. Standardized tests aren’t looking too good - students are showing the impact of virtual school, especially some of the math scores. I’m glad our kids are out of school. We have different worries, but it’s not about their ability to learn algebra virtually.

This is ‘Homework’ assignments regardless of what they call it. They’re relying on parents and caretakers to keep students engaged in an uncontrolled environment.

We have no idea who’s overseeing these kids at home. Nor if or not they’re doing the work. I can recall my sister asking if I got my work done....I said yes even when I hadn’t and that was that. I suffered because of that in my grades.

A virus that has had little effect on kids now has a variation that is even more harmless . That is the excuse for keeping them at home? Are they worried these children might get life long immunity and render their #1 political weapon mute?

Being from Philly and having 11 years of catholic education I have done very well in life. I can’t imagine these kids ever recovering from missing so much school. Most ONLINE classes are a joke.
