Former New York Times columnist Nicholas Kristof, who left the liberal newspaper after 37 years to run for Oregon governor only to be ruled ineligible, has vowed to challenge the "politically motivated" decision and predicted he would still win the election.
"A failing political establishment in Oregon has chosen to protect itself, rather than give voters a choice. We will challenge this decision in court, and we are confident we will prevail, because the law is on our side," Kristof tweeted on Thursday following Oregon Secretary of State Shemia Fagan’s announcement that the former liberal columnist failed to meet the state's residency standards.
The liberal columnist-turned-candidate called the decision to rule him ineligible "troubling," and said he’s an outsider so the "political establishment" sees him as a threat.

Oregon has dodged a bullet.
Stay a while and run next cycle.
Should have moved there earlier if you wanted to run this time.
Ah, the old “I live here but I cast my ballots in another jurisdiction but that does not mean I live there” defense.
Actually, I kind of liked him long ago. He seemed to be the earliest asking questions like “Where is China really going with all of the growth we’re enabling?” when no one else is interested. I forget the other stuff, but his views on Asia quite often conflicted with the Deep State...so he was ignored.
Anyway, he later became the flaming Leftist that he now is...so whatever, him and Oregon deserve each other.
Frankly, if they decide him, they deserve what they get.
The man has zero executive experience. Being a newspaper columnist does not mean you can run things. I kind of felt the same way about Pat Buchanan. I mostly agreed with him, but having a pundit as President might be very bad.
I also remember Les Aspin’s time as Defense secretary. He was chairman of the HASC, but still could not do the job.
too bad he isn’t black - then he could just claim ‘racism’ and get his way.
Oregon law requires 3 year legal residency before a person is eligible to be elected Governor. By (apparent) voting in New York for the 2020 election, Nicholas Kristof would fail that test.
Probable grounds of appeal would be (IMHO) that since Oregon does NOT HAVE a residency PERIOD for voting, just sufficient proof of permanent residency, this 3 year requirement is disproportionate. In other words, Kristof wants to import the well known New York State rules to Oregon (Robert F Kennedy & Hillary R Clinton).
Well there are more NYers than Oregonians in Oregon.
He was an idiot goofball in the Reagan years.
Nicholas Kristof is a radical leftist loon.
What the HELL is a SHAMIA?? Kristof could not be worse than PINCHFACE!!!
“A failing political establishment,” he is talking about an establishment Democrat party that has ruled for 30+ years...(mail in ballots had nothing to do with it.) Love it when they eat their own.
Uh, no.
He doesn’t need executive experience; he’s a democrat. All he needs are feelings and good intentions. And a good liar as press secretary.
“The man has zero executive experience. Being a newspaper columnist does not mean you can run things.”
Don’t worry about that, I won’t be cutting him a check. I’m just bummed because he was one of the few relatively honest reporters for a time working for a mainstream media outlet.
Another was Paul Watson of the LA Times. Don’t know what happened to him, but he made it clear that Bill Clinton was committing war crimes by bombing civilian targets in Belgrade to get Serbia out of Kosovo*, while the rest of the media (and the Europeans) were covering for him.
*he was doing that, because we were totally ineffective trying to directly bomb military targets from 30,000 feet (in order to keep from getting shot down)
Once he could write interesting articles.
I remember reading this, now almost 25 years ago.

He really disappointed over the decades, to say the least.
He raised a couple of million in campaign funds so his legal proceedings will launder lots of money back to left wing lawyers. Always follow the money...
