An Ohio high school football player who says coaches forced him to eat a pizza covered with pepperoni grease in violation of his religious beliefs is suing his former district and the ousted coaches.
The former Canton McKinley High School athlete and his parents filed a federal civil rights suit this week seeking millions of dollars in damages and alleging violations of his religious freedom and constitutional rights.
The athlete says in the lawsuit that coaches were notified he doesn’t eat pork or pork residue as a member of the Hebrew Israelite religious faith, but that they ordered him to eat the pizza as punishment for missing an offseason workout — and indicated his spot on the team was at risk if he didn’t.

The district says the claims have no merit, but they fired the coaches anyway. So, which is it?

This story smells worst than a week-old worn pair of Rep. Schiff’s underpants.
If I’m on the jury I’d award the defense the cost of the pizza from the plaintiff.
I don’t think “Hebrew Israelite” = “Jewish” in the minds of many of the folks claiming to be adherents under either label. But even granting that point it’s not impossible for black folks to become Jewish, just uncommon. A well known example was Sammy Davis, Jr.
Nissim Black is better known these days. He is a rapper from Seattle who became a chareidi Jew.
There’s also NBA star Amar’e Stoudemire, who was exposed as a youngster to the Black Hebrew cult but eventually converted to Orthodox Judaism in Israel.
And there are a few other notable converts to Orthodox Judaism from black or African backgrounds.
The school system should not be part of this suit. I am sure the district has no policy that say a teacher or coach has the authority to force feed a student. I don’t see how it can be sustainable to hold the public accountable for the actions of individuals acting outside their authority. Unless I missed something where the coach has a pattern of this behavior and the district did not discipline or actually condoned the behavior. The coach did something stupid he should be the one accountable.

Who cares what it is. If the kid said he can’t eat it he can’t eat it. How is this any different than a religious exemption for the vaccine? And as a punishment? SERIOUSLY. What idiots. As a Jew, if were observant, I could not eat it either.
WHEN IT IS AGAINST YOUR RELIGION and they know it.
I am curious. Can you please explain what you know about this? Again, nobody should be forced to put something in their body they don’t want to. At least let’s be consistent here. I am Jewish, I am not observant, and I understand the importance of it as a religious belief.
