ASPIRE TO A VISION A scene in the movie Karate Kid was quite striking. Daniel went to see Mr. Miyagi and found him trimming a delicate bonsai tree. Daniel was fascinated and wanted to try it, but he had no idea how it was done. Miyagi told him to close his eyes and picture in his mind the way he wanted the tree to look. After Daniel found that vision in his mind, Miyagi told him to open his eyes and start trimming the tree. Daniel's every move was deliberate and focused. Then he stopped. He asked, "How do I know if my picture is right?" Miyagi replied, "If the picture comes from your heart, then it must be right. Just trust your picture".
Changes in our personal attitudes and behavior are difficult. However, change is possible if we aspire to a vision. Moses didn't think of liberating the Israelite slaves in Egypt until his experience with God and the burning bush. Paul didn't believe in Jesus until he received a vision while on his journey to Damascus. Martin Luther King, Jr. gave himself to the Civil Rights Movement because he had a dream of equality. Prayer: Lord, help us vision our changes, and change to achieve our vision for the enrichment of our marriages, our health, and our quality of life. Amen. CAPT Karl K. Fung, CHC, USN

January 2, 2022Fresh Start Effect
[Put] on the new self, which is being renewed in knowledge in the image of its Creator. Colossians 3:10
When Bryony turned thirty, she was sad to still be in a sales job she’d never liked. She decided it was time to stop procrastinating and find a new career. For David, New Year’s Eve had him looking in the mirror vowing this would be the year he lost weight. And for James, it was watching another month pass without his angry outbursts decreasing. Next month, he promised himself, he would try harder.
If you’ve ever vowed to change at the start of a new month, new year, or a major birthday, you’re not alone. Researchers even have a name for it: the fresh start effect. They suggest that at calendar points like these we’re more prone to assess our lives and try putting our failures behind us to start over. Wanting to be better people, we long for a fresh start.
Faith in Jesus speaks powerfully to this longing, offering a vision of what our best selves can be (Colossians 3:12–14) and calling us to leave our past selves behind (vv. 5–9). It offers this change not by decisions and vows alone, but by divine power. When we believe in Jesus, we become new people, and God’s Spirit works in us to make us whole (v. 10; Titus 3:5).
Receiving salvation in Jesus is the ultimate fresh start. And it doesn’t need to wait for a special calendar date. Your new life can start right now. — Sheridan Voysey
How have you seen the fresh start effect at work in your life? What’s stopping you from receiving God’s gift of a new life now?
Jesus, I give up my own plans to follow Yours. Please give me a fresh start!
To gain a better understanding of the Bible this year.

Dear God: I ask that no Airman, Coast Guardsman, Marine, Sailor, Soldier, Reservist, National Guardsman, or Merchant Marine feel alone or forgotten.
O Israel, hope in the Lord; For with the Lord there is loving kindness, And with Him is abundant redemption. And He will redeem Israel From all his iniquities.
Psalm 130:7 & 8

Howdy, Kathy.
I hope you got a good, looooong night’s sleep last night.
Nice to see y’all had some sunshine up there today. But with all that snow and the wind whipping like it is, it must be miserably cold outside.

He Who blessed our forefathers Abraham, Isaac and Jacob - may He bless the fighters of the Israel Defense Force, who stand guard over our land and the cities of our G-d from the border of the Lebanon to the desert of Egypt, and from the Great Sea unto the approach of the Aravah, on the land, in the air, and on the sea.
May HASHEM cause the enemies who rise up against us to be struck down before them. May the Holy One, Blessed is He, preserve and rescue our fighting men from every trouble and distress and from every plague and illness, and may He send blessing and success in their every endeavor.
May He lead our enemies under their sway and may He grant them salvation and crown them with victory. And may there be fulfilled for them the verse: For it is Hashem, your G-d, Who goes with you to battle your enemies for you to save you.
G-d bless and keep your children safe, Alouette.

Keep the Lord’s Day in the Lord’s Way
A blessed Feast of the Epiphany† or Second Sunday after Christmas (Western)/Sunday before Epiphany (Orthodox) to all.
†The Great Feast of the Epiphany occurs on the day after the 12th Day of Christmas; however, in most Roman Catholic Diocese of the United States the celebration is moved to the Sunday prior; a practice which has been adopted by too many other liturgical denominations...a terrible concession to the spiritual laxity of so many who view services falling on weekdays as in inconvenience or imposition. End of sermon.
