Since the start of the pandemic, many 16- and 17-year-old Americans have proven that they possess the social responsibility and political maturity to help elect better leaders.

I regret my own votes from my early 20s (Clinton in ‘92).

Worse for me: I'd just turned 19 when 18-year olds were given the vote. I was in college at the time.

Voted for Jimmy Cater - like the idiot I was back then.

Why should military get exceptions? They’re getting just as woke as everyone else.

Are these the same 16 and 17-year-olds who still can't figure out if they're boys or girls?

Those Mexicans are turning on the democrats. We’ve aborted 50 million voters since 1974. Like social security, you’ve gotta replace them with something? I never thought I could say this but they are running short of dead people votes. Their cheating efforts and the internet have drawn too much attention to voter fraud schemes. Particularly dead people who have a paper trail.

Yep. If they could, they would lower the age of franchise (voting) down to eight years old.

They would go all the way to infant, except they get into a touchy debate about whether fetuses can be killed once they exit the womb and become infants...

The younger, the better.

More impressionable, less capable of discriminating thought, more easily led. In other words, the perfect Democrat Voter.

If anything we should raise the age back to 21.

What’s happening is now the Latino vote is beginning to fall in line with the traditional Urban vs Rural split. Urban Latinos will continue to vote Rat, just as all other urban demographics.

There is no reason for any restrictions on the conduct of adults, so you are correct that whatever age is the age limit for voting should also be the age at which individuals have full rights of adulthood. And that includes the things you listed, and also the rights to take whatever other actions adults are able to do.

Somehow I can't imagine the same liberals promoting voting by 16 year olds also endorsing their rights, and responsibilities to be the same as any other adult. No need for juvenile courts for anyone over 15 at that point. And no basis for public schools to limits the rights of 16 and 17 year old students.

Pure desperation brought on by their wholly idiotic mania to oust Trump at any cost. The ‘cost’ is a now-President who can’t even tell you who keeps sh*tting his pants every day and cackling hyena who makes morons the equivalent of geniuses...

Exactly......it’s not hard to tell why the left wants the youth to vote.

I like your idea if coupled with the requirement that for every year someone works for the government (even as an elected official) they must have one year of private sector or military experience.

The only exception would be jobs (like my twice a year government job) which pay less than $1000 annually.

Sit down with a 16 year old and try to discuss things like deficit spending, progressive versus regressive tax rates, the part monetary policy by the Fed has on the inflation rate.

FRiend, have you had such a discussion with anyone over 40?

Sure, your average teen probably won't understand the nuances, but the normal ones know they can't spend more money than they have in their DDA account. They also know that songs used to cost $0.99 but are now $1.29.

Your average 40+ human thinks the rich should pay their fair share - without knowing that the top 1% of filers by AGI pay more than one-third of the income taxes collected - and it was great getting a $600 helicopter drop of money.

Youths have the excuse of age. GenXers et al haven't that excuse.

In 92 I remember I decided it was the women's turn to govern. Usher in Marjory Magolies Mezvinsky. I grew up shortly thereafter. She was a republican, right? Safe bet vote.

Churchills quote about under 40 and a conservative meant you have no heart, and being over 40 and a liberal meant you had no brain still holds true.

Heck, I’d raise the voting age to 35, and you must own property.

What you’ve said seems to be true of Hispanics in my experience. I worked in a heavily Hispanic area for two decades and they were huge Trump fans in that area - lots of military, retired or otherwise, plenty of disgust and distain about “wokeness.”
