US alarm at rise in child Covid infections sees school closures back on agenda

As US regional health authorities reacted with alarm to a jump in child Covid infections that caused some school districts to announce returns to remote learning, a leading public health official questioned the need for schools to close, saying: “We know how to keep schools open, we know how to keep them safe.”

Over the past three weeks, as Omicron-related cases soared in New York City and elsewhere, the number of children hospitalised in New York with Covid-19 quadrupled, the state health department said. The California state epidemiologist Dr Erica Pan wrote on Twitter: “Unfortunately New York is seeing an increase in pediatric hospitalisations (primarily amongst the unvaccinated), and they have similar [five - to 11-year-old] vaccination rates.”

Across New York state, about 16% of five- to 11-year-olds and 71% of 12- to 17-year-olds are fully vaccinated. “Please give your children the gift of vaccine protection as soon as possible as our case [numbers] are increasing rapidly,” Pan wrote.

The shots don’t work against Omicron and that includes kids.

I guess that they think they're doing us a favor by saying "quadrupled," rather than reporting that the absolute number rose from "2" to "8." (After all: Math is hard!)

The children at my wife's school has had numerous COVID infections. She has learned from the other teachers at her school that all of the other 38 schools in the district have had numerous student and teacher COVID infections. For her and the other teachers, it does not make sense to require teachers to get vaccinations while the kids are not required.

I would say that the parents of the students should also get vaccinated. This is a student population deemed the most diverse in the state. Getting COVID information on how to protect oneself and others out to such a diverse population is impossible when the most basic logic on how to deal with it is lacking.

The reality is these vaccines do not confer sufficient efficacy to be protective to anyone.

Needing boosters every 10-12 weeks is just not going to work, unless they are going to allow the school nurse to administer shots(yea, I know...wait for it...it is coming).

Every parent needs to wake-up and ask themselves are they going to do this to their kid? Seriously! Stop and THINK! Maybe this younger generation view this as normal, not a big deal because they vaccinate babies how many times by age 1.5? Like 23 times? Vaccination is quite normalized for this younger generation, especially for the kids. I can see today’s parents just shrug their shoulders and accept that their children getting boosters every quarter in school.

Even if they get their kids the shot now, it won’t protect them. It is a two dose shot and full protection takes 4-6 weeks to develop. Two doses 21 and 28 days apart and add 2 weeks. Plus Pfizer fails omicron.

Everybody getting admitted to a hospital is tested for COVID. They have to, so they can segregate the infected to control disease spread in the hospital.

When there is more COVID going around, more of the people getting admitted for other reasons, will test positive. It is like sampling the general population.

It is mostly a situation where more people (including kids) are being admitted “with” COVID, rather than “because” of it - just as it was in South Africa and the UK with Omicron.

China claims it is hanta virus and they have it contained in a rural area. Uh, rural vs 3 cities shut down?? NIH (Fauxi) and CDC say it is Severe fever with thrombocytopenia virus (SFTSV) which has a fatality rate of 12% and is transferred human to human and there is no cure. China says there is a.... vax (aka $$$$$).

Brilliant, lets see what happens when the Sudan participants mix their mystery illness with China’s mystery illness and with whatever delicacy the fresh market caters.

What would be a fun article for a conservative news organization to do is to look at the testing availability in deep red states versus deep blue. What they'll likely find is a bunch of panicked sheep people in the deep blue areas in miles long lines versus very few to any people waiting the deep red areas. We need cultural separation and divorce. Free people and people who thirst for the yoke just don't mix well in practice.
