~ Hall of Heroes The Berlin Airlift Part 4: The Legecy All info and photos from this website.
Link to Part 1 Link to Part 2 Link to Part 3 | | THE AIRLIFT'S LEGACY The most obvious result of this confrontation was the 40-year Cold War with the Soviet Union, which ebbed with the construction of the Berlin Wall, and the Korean and Vietnam Conflicts. The US also forged a newfound friendship with Germany, its former foe, and established the Federal Republic of Germany as a result. In addition, the North Atlantic Treaty organization (NATO) was formed as a result of the crisis.
Less politically, our aircraft and airway system we enjoy today was developed and perfected as a result of the Berlin Airlift. Ground Controlled Approach or GCA was greatly improved as a necessity for the aircraft to land in Berlin, and our air traffic control system is a direct development of that technology. Loading procedures and maintenance procedures are greatly improved as a result, too.
More importantly, the Berlin Airlift demonstrated the military need for Air Transport in addition to Bombers and Fighters. A result is the Air Mobility Command and aircraft like the C-141 Starlifter, the C-130 Hercules, the C-5 Galaxy, and our newest transport, the C-17 Globemaster III.
All of these political and logistical ideas came as a result of the resolve of the US, Great Britain, France, and Germany to resist totalitarian tactics and wage a battle of air transport. This battle saved over 2.5 million people without firing a single shot. In a matter of fifteen months in 1948-49, world history was changed by the greatest humanitarian aviation event in history, the Berlin Airlift. | MEMORIALS: The Airlift Memorial at Rhein Main Air Base, Frankfurt, and on Luftbruckenplatz at Tempelhf Airport in Berlin. Each prong represents one of the 3 air corridors used during "Operation Vittles", and the names of the US and British Airmen killed in the process are inscribed on the base of each. | 31 Americans lost their lives during the Berlin Airlift, paying the ultimate price for the freedom of others. Freep mail me to be on or off the Daily Bread ping list
Monday,
December 27, 2021God’s Right Hand
I am the Lord your God who takes hold of your right hand and says to you, Do not fear; I will help you. Isaiah 41:13
I helped my elderly dog, Wilson, out to the grass and in the process, I released the leash of our younger dog, Coach, for just a minute. As I bent to pick up Coach’s lead, he spied a bunny. Off he went, ripping the leash from my right hand and corkscrewing my ring finger in the process. I fell to the grass and cried out in pain.
After returning from urgent care and learning I’d need surgery, I begged God for help. “I’m a writer! How will I type? What about my daily duties?” As God sometimes does, He spoke to me from my daily Bible reading. “For I am the Lord your God who takes hold of your right hand and says to you, Do not fear; I will help you” (Isaiah 41:13). I scanned the context, which indicated that God’s people in Judah, to whom Isaiah was communicating His message, enjoyed a special relationship with Him. He promised His presence, strength, and help through His own righteous standing, symbolized by His right hand (v. 10). Elsewhere in Scripture, God’s right hand is used to secure victories for His people (Psalm 17:7; 98:1).
During my weeks of recovery, I experienced encouragement from God as I learned to dictate on my computer and trained my left hand in household and grooming functions. From God’s righteous right hand to our broken and needy right hands, God promises to be with us and to help us. — Elisa Morgan
How do you need God’s help today? How have you experienced His help in the past?
Healing God, I need Your help! Please use Your righteous right hand to take hold of my broken, weary hands and help me, I pray.

Hi Kathy!
We did not have our usual white Christmas this year although the Seattle area did, go figure.
Had a nice time today having lunch with daughter and son and hanging a bit.
The New Year is almost upon us....*Sigh*

Howdy, Kathy.
A nice ending to Christmas weekend .... the final chapter of Berlin Airlift.
Do you need your spikies when you go out on the deck? I understand there’s been freezing rain up there today.

Well, shoot!
I didn’t see this when I posted a sec ago. LOL
Glad you had a good day with the family.
If you wanted a white Christmas, I reckon y’all should have gone to Seattle to hang at your daughter’s house. LOL
We had enough sunshine today to bump us up to 73 degrees. A great afternoon for running a couple of errands and opening a couple of windows in the house. I just closed them a few minutes go. NOT a common occurrence this time of year, that’s for sure.

Good evening, radu...did you have another fairly warm day? Any rain in the offing?
It is so cool to see those planes all lined up and knowing their mission.
