CONCORD, N.H. (AP) — In 2008, when the Right Rev. Gene Robinson of New Hampshire was excluded from a global Anglican gathering because of his sexuality, Desmond Tutu, who died Sunday, came to his defense.
“Gene Robinson is a wonderful human being, and I am proud to belong to the same church as he,” Tutu wrote in the foreword to a book Robinson published that year.
Robinson, who in 2003 became the U.S. Episcopal Church’s first openly gay bishop, said Sunday he has been trying to live up to those words ever since.
“It was quite surreal because I was taking grief from literally around the world,” he said in a phone interview. “There was probably at that time, and maybe still, no one better known around the world than Desmond Tutu. It was an astounding gesture of generosity and kindness.”

Personally, I would not seek spiritual guidance from a sexual pervert.
And Jesus would have told him to go and sin no more....................
So he likes tutu
Reason Number 1 why the Episcopal Church is dying. Robinson doesn't seem to believe in Jesus Christ and hw he became a bishop is dumbfounding.
Me neither.
Had an affair while he was married, lied about it, then left his wife and kids for his lover, got divorced, married his gay lover, divorced again and is alcoholic.
But he’s held up as a moral example by the lefties.
Wow. What a spiritual and moral leader.
That is quite a history.
So, the Bishop IN A tutu, thanked Bishop Tutu.
Just confirms everything.
You said it before I could!
In a normal male with such an adulterous affair, he would have been dropped as a Bishop and lucky to keep his ordination! As a homosexual, he was avant-garde and protected! Why I am an Anglican, not Episcopalian!
“Gene Robinson is a wonderful human being, and I am proud to belong to the same church as he,”
This relates best to this dialog in Yes Prime Minister
James Hacker:
Humphrey, what’s a Modernist in the Church of England?
Sir Humphrey Appleby:
Ah, well, the word “Modernist” is code for non-believer.
James Hacker:
You mean an atheist?
Sir Humphrey Appleby:
No, Prime Minister. An atheist clergyman couldn’t continue to draw his stipend. So, when they stop believing in God, they call themselves “Modernists”.
James Hacker:
How could the Church of England suggest an atheist as Bishop of Bury St Edmunds?
Sir Humphrey Appleby:
Well, very easily. The Church of England is primarily a social organization, not a religious one.
James Hacker:
Is it?
Sir Humphrey Appleby:
Oh yes. It’s part of the rich social fabric of this country. So bishops need to be the sorts of chaps who speak properly and know which knife and fork to use. The sort of people one can look up to.
Ol Vicki Gene Robinson...the reason my family and I left the Episcopal church many years ago.
Only a very small minority remember that Tutu was a profound antisemite and strong supporter of BDS.
Lest we forget Bishop Robinson’s creepiest quote:
“God’s light and God’s life ooze over me like warm butter.”
— Gay Episcopal Bishop Gene Robinson
Most formerly Christian denominations went “Nine Suggestions” years ago. That would clearly include the Anglicans.
This reply is to AP there is not such thing as a gay Christian, there is born again person who have rejected that sinful life style who is no longer living that life style. A Sodomite Bishop is not a Christian.
Epistemological????
See Post #16
Tutu was a believer and advocate of black liberation theology and homo rights. He advocated for a different gospel…that is to say a false gospel.
