Good catch! “Scotia” is just as racial as “Negro.”

I like the irony of the proposed names with “Freedom” in them. How long until that word is also prohibited as right-wing extremism.

Together, they will decide what the new names will be for Cape Negro (the area), Cape Negro Harbour, Cape Negro Island and Cape Negro (a point on the island).

How about "Airstrip One," "Victory Harbour," "Big Brother Island," and "Cape Ingsoc?"

When did ‘negro’ devolve into a slur? I realize that what used to be the polite way to refer to people whose immediate ancestors came from Africa is now considered old fashioned, but a slur? As has been pointed out, it is merely Spanish for ‘black’.

When I was Recording Secretary for a City Council back in the ‘80s, there was a big sting about renaming “Jackass Lane”. Pretty funny. I think it is still “Jackass Lane”.
