U.S. Navy Seizes 1,400 Assault Rifles

U.S. 5th Fleet ships seized approximately 1,400 AK-47 assault rifles and 226,600 rounds of ammunition from a stateless fishing vessel during a flag verification boarding in accordance with customary international law in the North Arabian Sea, Dec. 20.

U.S. Navy patrol coastal ships USS Tempest (PC 2) and USS Typhoon (PC 5) found the weapons during a search conducted by embarked U.S. Coast Guard personnel. The illicit weapons and ammunition were later transported to guided-missile destroyer USS O’Kane (DDG 77) where they await final disposition.

The stateless vessel was assessed to have originated in Iran and transited international waters along a route historically used to traffic weapons unlawfully to the Houthis in Yemen. The direct or indirect supply, sale or transfer of weapons to the Houthis violates U.N. Security Council Resolutions and U.S. sanctions.

The vessel’s five crew members identified themselves as Yemeni nationals and will be returned to Yemen.

After removing the crew and illicit cargo, U.S. naval forces determined the stateless vessel was a hazard to navigation for commercial shipping and sank it.

Evidently not. We are like the Roman and British Empires of old. We simply have to be everywhere in the world, all the time. You gotta throw everything you got into that.

They prefer to leave US coasts unprotected. Executing the foreign policy of the Saudi throwbacks is a much more pressing concern.

I swear by the SKS. What bothers me a bit is the false statement “Type 56 assault rifles”. They have not been classified as assault rifles. This exposes the article as being written by a wokie.

From Wikipedia:

“As one of the country’s six armed services, the Coast Guard has been involved in every major U.S. war since 1790, from the Quasi-War with France to the Global War on Terrorism.”

There used to be a proposal to buy Siberia for $1Trillion, back before the Soviet Union disbanded. And Trump favored buying Greenland.

Imagine an American homeland so vast as to include large swaths of Greenland and Siberia. There would be plenty of room for all those illegal aliens that the Coast Guard refuses to intercept.

I worked with a guy who was New London graduate. (And a good engineer.) He spent his entire 20 year career as a navigation officer on Navy ships. He couldn’t break lieutenant-commander because he never had any command experience, and the Navy wouldn’t give him up.

Coasties go world-wide!

Actually the reason CG crew deploy on Navy vessels and do the actual boarding of suspect vessels is the CG has law-enforcement while the Navy does not.

This is done for counter-drug operations too.

Semper Paratus!

Most of it uninhabitable wilderness, just like Canada from about 200 miles north of the US border.

The Coast Guard has small boat expertise useful in interdiction operations. They can be used by the Navy in support of their operations as required by the DOD and will be under Navy command during such operations. As shown on my home page, I spent a year in country during the Vietnam war and lived on an 82 foot patrol boat for the entire year..

The entire midwest was called “The Great American Desert”, considered uninhabitable. The Homestead Act was thought to be necessary for 5 or 6 generations of settlers but it was settled in ONE generation. It was our manifest destiny.
