Seems like the actions of pirates not any worthwhile military.
/\
How do you think we got Marines ?
Spoiler alert
Muslim pirates
Ya, things changed a little since what I was taught were the 3 main missions of the C.G. in boot instruction at alameda in 78 I see.
I stand corrected.
Was not thrilled to see it merged into DHS.
Miss the old C.G. flag.
Was never a fan of anything with
” homeland”
in its name.
Ymmv
Here’s sumthin I just learned about the Coast Guard:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_Coast_Guard
Unlike the other branches of the United States Armed Forces, which are prevented from acting in a law enforcement capacity by 18 U.S.C. § 1385, the Posse Comitatus Act, and Department of Defense policy, the Coast Guard is exempt from and not subject to the restrictions of the Posse Comitatus Act.[41]
Thanks for your thoughtful post. I appreciate the pointers!
I truly feel bad for all the mil guys who have been exploited by our government. But I feel bad in a different way when I think a lot of them would go against regular US natural-born citizens if ordered to do so.
I urge you to visit Canada and go north of the theoretical 200 mile line I mentioned. Most of it is nearly uninhabited wilderness. Much of Russia is the same.
Thats why you will find Coasties in every theater on the globe. All the other military branches and LEO agencies use this to circumvent Posse Comitatus daily. (I know. Thats part of what I did in my during my military career.) The Navy using Nuclear subs to track drug boats regardless of the flag or citizenry of the occupants, or the DEA using us to finagle incriminating evidence of military nature that all a sudden is converted to “drug enforcement” operation for the duration of the gunfire and arrests.
Its all very neat and tidy.
Thank you!
No, the goodies will probably be handed over to the Taliban.
Hm, you’re probably right.
The crew should have gone down with the ship.
Wow
They used to say exactly the same thing about the Great American Desert.
I don’t mind if the authoritarian exercises are directed to our enemies or foreign criminals. What I mind is that it can be pointed towards US citizens. That’s what Posse Comitatus was all about, protection for citizens. With that practice you portray, all those protections are vanished.
Every sailor involved in this immoral theft should be drummed out of the service and made to pay restitution to the owners. THIS is the kind of crap that makes other countries hate America. THIS is the kind of crap that the out-of-control US government has been doing for decades, to their own citizens and others.
Agree. This is an immoral taking.
I was at odds with every Federal LEO you can name just because I know how things are supposed to work but a week didnt pass in my 4 year “special duty” assignment that the FBI, DEA, US Marshals, Customs, BOP, various state agencies that were “cooperating”, and all 4 other military branches didnt come to the Coasties and request (and get) information that without US Coast Guard customs authority they would not have access to.
Most was legitimate but there were times when you could tell the chain of custody was so convoluted that the info was being channeled thru 3 or 4 sources before the request landed in our lap. When I could tell there were schenanigans going on the digging for info/records would be routed thru the Coastie liaison to the unit and he got to put his name and computer ID on it.
Sorry to say I was the exception. and sorry to red pill you on Chrismas.
Merry Christmas !!
I wonder what they’d do if this loophole in Posse Comitatus were removed? They’ve gotten so used to operating as a deep state that they’d just prop up some other minor branch of guvmint and run it through there.
The Coasties authority is based on the old Revenue Cutter Service created by Hamilton under Washington in 1790 something. The very first armed seagoing service that even predates the US Navy. We have the authoatah !
The pain of the forever unobtainable!
