An American diplomat working for the U.S. consulate in Lebanon has been arrested in Turkey on suspicion of selling a fake passport for $10,000 to a Syrian national, Turkey's state news agency said on Wednesday.
According to Turkey's Anadolu Agency, which cited a statement from the Istanbul Security Directorate, the diplomat and the Syrian national were arrested after the latter allegedly tried to travel to Germany using the passport, which had been issued to the diplomat, from Istanbul International Airport on Nov. 11.
The statement said that security camera footage of the individuals showed the two meeting at the airport and exchanging clothes with one another, per Anadolu Agency.

Probably happens more times than we think...................They just got caught at it..............
The American diplomat is stationed in Lebanon where he has diplomatic immunity; however, the crime occurred in Turkey where he does not have diplomatic immunity.
There is no U.S consulate in Lebanon just the embassy.
What you think, two years in prison for both guys?
I thought the embassy was blown up during Reagan administration.................
Two years in a Turkish prison?.......................
I think a lot of this goes on and this guy got caught.

Odd.
If you have a diplomatic passport from the U.S. (red), it generally grants you immunity from prosecution or detainment.
Then again, I have seen personally in Ankara immunity was denied a State department official.
End of story, because of the diplomat’s connection with Cypress (1975), it got nasty.
The Turks can be...shitheads.

Our friendly NATO member, right?
Yes, it does. But pulling stuff like this in Turkey is especially stupid. Very poor planning. No cover from the host nation if something goes wrong. I’ve had issues transiting Istanbul Airport with Dip pouches, rifles pointed at me because I said no X-rays, and those were perfectly legit.
and who thought this fiasco was better than simply passing a passport?
Ground breaking ceremony occurred in April 2017.
