The New York City Council on Wednesday voted to ban natural gas lines in new buildings as a way to combat so-called climate change. Outgoing Democrat Mayor Bill de Blasio is expected to sign a bill into a law that will ban new gas stoves, boilers, and heaters.
“We’re making it clear that the next generation of buildings will be electric buildings,” Ben Furnas, de Blasio’s director of climate and sustainability, told Yahoo News. “We’re sending a message to the world that if you can do it here, you can do it anywhere.”

So you're supposed to burn your furniture for heat?
To: ChicagoConservative27
What’s going to produce that electricity?
Nuke power?
Hamster wheels?

Yeah the elite have their chefs use gas stoves and burners.
Anyone who is really into cooking almost always prefers gas over electric.

It’s going to be an expensive retrofit when the all electric system becomes too costly to operate.

We moved here a few years ago that has a gas stove and no comparison to electric.
A friend of mine works for a gas utility in another state and I didn’t get what he said about natural gas being so great for the longest time.

Luxury high rise apartments with electric stoves and electric heat.
Gas heat for some reason is warmer.

That’s the difference between heating with 140F air versus 90F air. And of course when you heat with 90F air you have to move a LOT more air, so it feels cooler.

And, I don’t know about the rest of the country but natural gas is way cheaper than electric.

True, but after seeing my latest heating bill for gas (up 50% plus thanks Brandon) it’s small consolation.

I’m on a budget plan with my electric. I’m dreading settle up time.

Talk about science deniers, anytime you change one form of energy to another form you lose energy. That is the first mistake NYC. The 2nd is using electricity to generate heat which has a much lower efficiency than gas heating for that application.
Lastly many of the large buildings in Manhattan use steam heat produced in steam plants by...... wait for it....natural gas.

So where does the electricity come from? Burning natural gas. DUH! And because
electric heat is less efficient, you burn MORE natural gas. These people are truly cretins.

I mean natural gas has always been a byproduct of oil industries, drilling. why let it escape into the air and no one uses it?
That’s exactly why its great to use it.

I mean natural gas has always been a byproduct of oil industries, drilling. why let it escape into the air and no one uses it? When I was young, in my city there were tall stovepipes that were constantly burning off natural gas, 24 hours a day. Real pretty watching the flames at night. It was considered a waste byproduct and was burned off. They ended that sometime maybe 4 decades ago, as it became more useful as a money-maker.

exactly
its an incredibly useful byproduct
and considering the efficiency of the modern items that burn it, you can use almost ALL of it and hardly any waste gasses are emitted.
