Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg will join Labor Secretary Martin J. Walsh and National Economic Council Director Brian Deese in unveiling details behind the Biden-Harris Trucking Action Plan during a White House roundtable with trucking-industry leaders.
The trucker shortage, which the industry has warned of since at least the 1980s, has reached critical mass, as COVID-19 shutdowns have triggered widespread layoffs while temporarily closing the state DMVs and driver-training schools that serve as the industry’s pipeline.
A senior administration official said the problems that the plan aims to address are longstanding and not merely a result of industry shake-up from the pandemic.
“But in this worker-centered recovery, these new investments and infrastructure, and this new focus by this administration, gives us the opportunity to work together across industry, government and labor to take these challenges on,” the official said.
The plan aims to put more drivers behind the wheel by stepping up initiatives to recruit more military veterans into the industry, and by launching an apprenticeship accelerator aimed at helping employers start or grow their apprenticeship programs.

There is no real shortage of truck drivers. The trucking industry simply has to find a better way to compensate their drivers. The current compensation standard — where drivers are paid by the mile and not by the hour — is completely ludicrous. Drivers who are on company time don’t get paid a penny when they are shut down while they wait for a customer to unload the trailer, when they are stuck in traffic, and when they must stop driving for hours at a time due to hours-of-service restrictions.
The are going to do the opposite. Everything they do is 180 degrees away from actual news headlines.
I bet Biden will require vaccination be included on the medical certificate of a CDL license.

OK, has anyone on here ever been to Mexico? If so, has anyone taken a taxi from point A to point B? We have and the Texas Cyclone Roller Coaster at Astroworld would seem like a pony ride compared to the drivers in Mexico. One passed a car going round this big rock where you couldn’t see what was coming. They can’t drive in Mexico.......and believe me, they can’t drive over here especially Mexican women. That’s all we need is drunk (more times than not) illegals driving the roads and highways like they drive in Mexico.....gotta stop this like YESTERDAY and tell that little fluff to ESAD!!!!

I have been warning people of this and I have been ridiculed for posting such an idea. I have been telling you the reason they are letting the invaders come through our borders is to replace every working American in the US. The demonrats are desperate for voters and keep control of both houses. 2022 is a long way from here and everybody that thinks that the Republicans will gain both houses better think again. As I live and breathe I am telling you the fix is in. Hint of the heist: Pelosi not retiring and Beijing Jo letting the cat out of the bag saying they WILL win and keep control of both houses stinks to high heaven! A redux of plastic nancy guaranteeing a victory in the presidential election, they KNOW the fraud fix is in. It will become fearful to travel the interstates with these people behind the wheel of semi-trucks. It’s going to get much much worse. Can you say third world country in the rear view mirror?
One huge positive change that will put AMERICAN drivers back to work would be to eliminate the stupid “Sleep Apnea” testing. Who cares what happens when you are off duty and in the sleeper. How does it affect driving? No one is supposed to driving while they are asleep anyhow. One of the dumbest medical regs yet.
They probably have some illegal plan to issue FEDERAL drivers’ licenses, and some FEDERAL truck insurance plan (that we, the taxpayers pay for...).
