SEATTLE - The Salvation Army is facing a shortage of toys and donations ahead of the holiday season, and urge communities to find a way to help.
The nonprofit reports it gets 75% of total annual donations during November and December, and they are once again in need of support. That help can come in the form of an online donation at the virtual Northwest Red Kettle.
"There are many reasons why both financial and toy donations are down this year, not the least of which is likely pandemic fatigue and concerns about employment and the future," said Colonel Cindy Foley of the NW Salvation Army Division. "We are actually trying to provide food, shelter, toys and clothing to double the number of families we served last Christmas, and in the midst of the growing need we are seeing fewer people donating at our virtual and physical kettles."
Not only is the nonprofit organization short on donations, they also are in desperate need of bell ringers to staff the red kettles seen at businesses around the country.
"The situation is dire, and we are asking our generous supporters in the region to donate to the virtual Northwest Red Kettle as well as make donations at every physical kettle in whatever way you can," said Foley.
After they said that white people must apologize for their existence, I, a Christian white male, will NEVER give them ANOTHER DOLLAR. The only reason they issued a “retraction” was this massive drop in revenue. They still believe what they believed before.
Just another group of filthy Communists operating on other peoples' dime.
The problem with hasty and ill-advised political correctness is that you piss off one side with the wokeness and then piss off the other side by apologizing or withdrawing the woke propaganda. It’s a lose-lose situation.
Very well stated- probably the main reason their support is deservedly lacking this season.
My last donation to them was about 2 years ago in memory of a friend who had passed away who had actually done bell ringing for them over the years. I was never a big donor to them but on occasion I did. If you go back on this website the SA was often highly praised as a top notch charity. Amazing how quickly things can turn.
Believe it or not I saw exactly that exiting a store yesterday.
I was a SA volunteer for 7 years and can attest to the fact the majority of donors (money, clothes, food, toys, and time) are / were white
People of color are the “gibme dats” and primary recipients of SA’s services. They are not investors, producers, providers, donors or volunteers.
Keep it local which is what I plan on doing going forward.
I hadn’t thought about that since I only use cash, but that’s definitely a growing factor. Credit card readers still won’t help them much with their ‘woke’ problem.
Play stupid games.
Alienating your donor base has dire consequences. It is a shame others suffer for the management’s stupidity. It may be a lean year until something else replaces the SA.
How about Toys for Tots? Of course you may be a little miffed like I was when many of the people showing up to shop for toys there were diving newer cars than mine.
They took a huge hit from that one group inside their org, who did that anti-white “woke” crap. Maybe next year they might do better if they put a muzzle on those infiltrators.
Old white guy here
Tired of being called a racist
Gu woke, go to hell
Yep, the leak of that racist internal training document killed them. Get woke, go broke.
I told a foul mouthed disrespectful kid I was trying to help that restoring your reputation and respect is like having lost your virginity; you can’t get it back. Not with me anyway. Once you have shown your true bad character there isn’t much left of you to recover.
Like so many things, elevator down and a long difficult climb of stairs back up.
Sure thing.
Followed by a leftist-style response to their apology:
“That’s not enough.”
Methinks the salvation army forgot to do basic demographics. They really shoulda looked at who generally donates. It ain’t the wokeist leftists. It’s normal folks.
But hey, those lives don’t matter. Wrong.
Pandemic fatigue, employment worries? I think people who can are more motivated to assuage the misery of others in those times even when they may share some of the misery. I have.
No, SA, it is all on you and your wokeness campaign. You let two stupid, self-indulgent people destroy your organization. What a shame for all the good people who are still there working hard to make a difference. I feel sorry for them but not sorry enough to soften my hard feelings. I will not be insulted in my own house and still smile and be gracious. I’m just not that broad minded.
Could it possibly be to the public image tarnish they acquired recently with their leader’s embrace of the Marxist Critical Race Theory???
CORRECT
INSULT ME-—AND THEN ASK FOR MY DONATIONS? NEVER
I ain’t apologizing for crap to a bunch of idiots who have a near 80% illegitimate birth rate, who want to hang the resultant poverty, stupidity and violence on me, Robert E. Lee (the person and the car) and Christopher Columbus. The Salvation Army needs to go get some money from the Peeps Of Color in the country, who are well known for their benevolence and charity. /sarc.
