SEATTLE - The Salvation Army is facing a shortage of toys and donations ahead of the holiday season, and urge communities to find a way to help.
The nonprofit reports it gets 75% of total annual donations during November and December, and they are once again in need of support. That help can come in the form of an online donation at the virtual Northwest Red Kettle.
"There are many reasons why both financial and toy donations are down this year, not the least of which is likely pandemic fatigue and concerns about employment and the future," said Colonel Cindy Foley of the NW Salvation Army Division. "We are actually trying to provide food, shelter, toys and clothing to double the number of families we served last Christmas, and in the midst of the growing need we are seeing fewer people donating at our virtual and physical kettles."
Not only is the nonprofit organization short on donations, they also are in desperate need of bell ringers to staff the red kettles seen at businesses around the country.
"The situation is dire, and we are asking our generous supporters in the region to donate to the virtual Northwest Red Kettle as well as make donations at every physical kettle in whatever way you can," said Foley.
Twice a year I do a major house & closet cleaning and donate those items. Previously, I had split them between the Goodwill and Salvation Army. Two years ago I stopped donating to Goodwill and this year I won’t donate the Christmas cleaning items to Salvation Army. I have sent items to St. Vincent de Paul and recently I discovered a local thrift store that supports my local hospice care. I sent them a beautiful mid-century modern couch that I inherited and which was too large for my space.
“There was absolutely no need for the SA to enter into discussions on race and yet they did so now they must own it.”
Unless they decided to have a once hidden agenda that is now revealed.
Yep....I stopped giving in the 90s.

They were once one of the great charities.
Highly reputable, efficient and doing nothing but good.
Woke killed them.

I serve on advisory boards for several non-profit organizations. They all have three things in common that I believe are essential to the credibility of the organizations and their missions:
1. They have more board members than employees.
2. The board members are actively engaged as volunteers in the work of the organizations
3. They have so few employees that I can meet with all of them at one time in an ordinary-sized conference room.

As a pink skinned person I reject the salvation army as a racist organization agaist me because of my color of skin. Therefore I have no money or goods to give them. I am very busy handing out my goods and money to people who actually need it.
Not disagreeing, but giving is a hard habit to break..
When living in Florida, forever, my excuse not to hand anything to any cardboard sign carriers with a hand out was that i gave well to the Salvation Army.
SA has taken some goodwill out of my life. (And GoodWill is a for profit company)..
SA is pathological liars—typical of the woke crowd.
They declared war on white people—and now are trying to hide it.
Fails to see or admit to the 800 pound gorilla in the room.... namely Salvation Army's "woke" social justice division.
Why would an organization expect support from an ethnic group (white folk) that it has broad-brushed as racist and oppressive?
Thankfully, there are "white folk" who have not succumbed to Stockholm syndrome.
Why don’t they just go to K Street for money as they seem to have let themselves get obsessed with politics instead of people.
Since I am white, I no longer give.
I certainly understand that and can’t condemn it. It’s just a real shame that race has to be thrust into the faces of people who just want to try and do good for others. It’s insulting, frankly.
Wokeness will do that.
All year around there are groups asking for things. They want blood. They want money. They want toys. They want coats. They want this and that. Sometimes the well runs dry.
Yep. I used to volunteer for the Salvation Army but stopped about 2 years ago due to their emerging SJW and woke crap, so I can tell you with absolute certainty that the majority of their donations (clothes, toys, money) come from white people.
They stepped over the line and pissed off a lot of white people. Sucks to be them. Oh well, piss on ‘em
If anybody I looking for a good charity to donate to for Christmas, check out “Toys for Tots” or one of your local churches.
I would also say a cashless society is coming into play.
Maybe they should put credit card readers attached to the kettle. lol
