On Friday’s “PBS NewsHour,” New York Times columnist David Brooks argued that we have “an overheating economy” but President Joe Biden isn’t to blame for inflation.
Brooks said, “I don’t think he’s to blame for the inflation rates. I think that’s mostly the supply chain issues and other things, and the fact that we have a booming economy. So, we’re in an overheating economy. And you could make the argument that we shouldn’t have passed that infrastructure bill, but that is not affecting the economy right now. It’s too soon. And so you can make the argument we shouldn’t be spending more money because the economy’s overheating. But I don’t think he’s to blame. What disturbs me is, people have become so disabused, so cynical, that they see the negative and they don’t see the positive. So, as Jared Bernstein — he’s right. There’s a lot of really great news, and there’s a lot of bad news. But people are so — have reached a point of disillusionment about our country and our system that they focus on the negative.”

Yes Brooks the Biden Admin is a total disaster
Put him back in the pants pressing machine.
“... the fact that we have a booming economy...” Oh, okay dave. Would that be “booming” as in it done blowed up our budget for things like gas, eggs, hamburger, cornflakes, lumber etc., etc., etc? Hey dave, phu cough!
When does the tar and feathering start?
We should slam the brakes now and hike up the interest rates. Then we can actually spend money on our infrastructure. But we know most of it is pork.
So we went from being energy independent, actually exporting petroleum, to begging OPEC to lower fuel prices. All in the space of a few months and after a couple of executive orders. So increased prices for gasoline, home heating oil, natural gas and transportation of goods just happened all on their own? We are supposed to believe this?
If he believes this he is dumber than most of us thought - and that is saying a lot.
David Brooks considers himself a member of the Expert Class. They know what’s best for the underlings.
Was Brooks in that meeting with Biden’s people when the media was told to give Biden more favorable press coverage? Let’s go, Brooks.
I thought it was Mel Brooks who said this.
I thought old Pant Crease was dead?
Since when does this doofus know anything about business or economics? He’s known for his pedestrian opinions on politics & sociology, not his financial wizardry.
corrected headline
nyt token conservative fellates another democrat
I thought it was Mel Brooks who said this.
Isn’t Brooks the guy who dumped his first wife for one of his employees (who is 25 years younger)…all while lecturing people on the breakdown of the family?
The Expert Class thinks we’re stupid.
Hey, Dave, we have a fed that is doubling its balance sheet in 18 months , the treasury that is issuing trillions of dollars in debt the proceeds of which are paying people not to work, the breakdown in supply chains, the constellation of these episodes in phenomenon. Who is responsible? Those Productivity Stats do not support your “overheating” theory!
Three days ago its reported “journalists” have converged upon the White House to discuss how the administration should be covered. Today, all of these “journailists” are reading us their copy from the White House press office.
Recent activity in this area is entirely orchestrated by the WH and DNC, giving orders to their twenty-something lapdogs in the news media. Fight it on all fronts.
Brooks is one of those fools who believes that if he looks serious enough that wisdom will magically emerge from his piehole. He’s a dunce who doesn’t realize he’s a dunce. Tom Friedman is another of that type.
