Centrist Democratic Sen. Joe Manchin has engaged in discussions with leading Republicans in the Senate about reforming the filibuster, The Post has confirmed.

The talks, first reported by The Hill, come as a group of Democrats have been meeting on filibuster changes as some progressives call for its complete elimination as they look to pass major priorities.

“Most Republicans are willing to entertain ideas...”

They always are. Especially the bad ideas.

I know that you are trying hard after you owned yourself in the other thread, but this isn’t it. The reform that Manchin is discussing would actually help Republicans because it would allow them to get floor votes and amendments that they currently cannot.

That’s why the Republicans are receptive to what they are hearing from him.

I’m not sure if you know, but some of us have been following this a lot more closely than you, and we actually understand the procedure that’s happening. Go over to Predictit and put some money on the outcome on the various inner workings on the Hill. It will force you to become better educated on what is going on.

:)

Funny, there was no need to reform the filibusterer rules when the repubs were in charge. But then there was no need to reform the filibusterer rules when the repubs were in charge, they gave the dems everything they wanted.

Republican RINOs: JUST STOP!

The filibuster protects the minority position, slows down the rush to major changes, and brings compromise and in most cases, a more palatable result.

The Democrats, when in charge, rush as much through as they can even with the slimmest of margins. When Republicans are in charge, Democrats continue to act as they are in charge, and Republicans let them act that way.

Can we just STOP this crap and return to "regular order", plain-language legislative proposals, and just a smidgeon of sanity?

Don't mess with the filibuster.

The reality is that the dems can and will unilaterally abolish the filibuster at any time if they can get Manchin and Sinema on board.

I wouldn’t call it stupidity, exactly. “There is something rotten in the state of Denmark.”

If we have the Senate, change the run like the Libs did to pass Obamacare. Tell the Libs to pound sand. Then start the investigations on each and every Lib Senator and Congressman. Screw them and the get along to go along concept.

It's all about getting rid of Trump before 2024 and deflate his 78,000,000 Trump voters! It's all about keeping jester jo and the 🐀 in power because they LOVE their Multi million dollar corporation money! Effin grifters!! Hate them! Manchin needs to be voted out and hopefully McConnell gets his too!

Go back to the talking filibuster that can only be overridden with a 2/3 vote.

Not anymore. Nowadays, the filibuster is used by the majority party as an excuse not to pass bills that their voters want but their donors oppose. The GOP has mastered this charade for years. If the Republicans somehow managed to get a 90-10 majority in the U.S. Senate, they’d adopt a Senate rule requiring 95 votes to break a filibuster.

At a certain point, it isn't stupidity. The GOP Senate could care less about what their voters think - they only represent the people/orgs that write them checks or line their pockets. They are just as corrupt as the Democrats.

I don’t know if this is a real tiff, or if the MSM is just trying to stir up crap against Trump, but if what Trump said were true then it is uncharacteristically petty of him to do so.

Of course it is important for the leader of Israel to maintain good relations with whomever occupies the White House, including resident Brandon.

Its too easy right now, all someone has to do is say they want to block a bill. My fear is that they will get rid of the 2/3rds needed to shut down a filibuster, which would defeat the purpose of having one to begin with. If they want to make a change they should go back to the practice of having to talk the whole time. That would make it more of a commitment for whoever would invoke it, while at the same time keeping 51 votes from being able to foist unwanted legislation on the other half of the country. Right now we have the lunatic fringe claiming a mandate when such a close election indicates nothing of the sort. If something needs to give, then they should keep the 2/3rds and make them talk again, who knows, Shifty and Bloomingballs might burst into flames if someone reads the Constitution or the Federalist Papers.
