A major nickel mine in a Philippines rainforest has continued to expand, mowing down acres of trees as global demand for minerals essential for electric vehicle manufacturing surges.
The Rio Tuba mine in the region of Palawan supplies an important mineral for electric vehicle batteries in Tesla and Toyota cars, but the mine is nearing an expansion that would cause it to grow from four square miles to 14 square miles, according to an NBC News investigation. The growth of the mine would cause massive deforestation of the land which environmentalists warn could destroy the area’s ecosystem.

Oil is safer ,LOL
Yes. Destroying the environment in order to save it. Leftist ruin everything they touch.
Isn’t it weird how politicians are so “worried” about the dependence on fossil fuels but not worried about the much, much greater dependence on fossil plastics, and other fossil products made from the greater part of every barrel of oil?
And isn’t it weird how the environmentalists are up in arms over mines in the Philippines, the US, and Chile, but not about the mines in China or other communist countries?
The lefts ignorance is staggering. Lithium mines are even more devestating.

Electric vehicles are viable and have been since the late 1800’s. We call them trolleys or trains. They are great for in-city use or large freight and passenger trains. Trucks and cars use liquid fuels.
doesnt matter. just like the birdkill from wind turbines and solar farms
They dont interview all the people employed there at the mine and in local communities, in a province and a country desperate for jobs.
I doubt very much that it was “ancient rainforest” that was removed for the sake of the mine. That old growth forest was removed, but decades to a century ago, by loggers. Nearly all such forest in the Philippines is second growth at least.
Big deal/s
Stop mining, and it will covered in trees in 10 years.

They display the percentage of CO2 in the atmosphere as "Parts per million" or "ppm" because the average person looking at it will see digits in the hundreds "415" and think "Wow that's a lot" when in fact it's 0.0415 percent or ZERO point ZERO when taking into account 100% of the atmosphere as a whole which is absolutely nothing, it is a TRACE gas.
There is more Argon in the atmosphere than there is CO2 and probably more of Al Gores bad breath. They also will at times display it as "Parts per billion" to raise the number up even higher to 1800 to scare people more.
In the past 100 years it's raised only 0.01% and this is a molecule NECESSARY for life on earth. Yet they would have the public believe it's a poison that is flooding the earth and taking over the entire atmosphere. It's PT Barnum and the Cardiff giant. One day they'll have the climate hoax in a museum as well.
I see the article mentioned the destruction of much land to acquire necessary minerals for electric vehicles, solar units, & wind turbines. Now wouldn’t it be a shame if we didn’t have those more or less useless things? If the demand for the minerals increases & it must, then we lose the land in large part, but the demand for the aforementioned minerals would still be there. It strikes me that there is a better way.
Watch “Planet of the Humans” available on youtube. Yes, it’s by Michael Moore but he’s not in it so you don’t have to look at him. It destroys the green movement and shows how all this “green” stuff is worse than fossil fuels and how people like Gates and Kerry are making a bundle by killing the planet even more than fossil fuels. They’ll start a biomass power plants using stuff that would go to the dump but run out of that and start cutting trees to feed the plant.
The billionaire class “green” types plan to rape the earth with this false agenda.
I go to Wind Watch daily and usually an eye opening article about some wind turbine self destructing. Always informative.
Can I laugh yet?
Lithium doesn’t grown on trees (but petroleum did).
