The Catholic Church in the Netherlands has entered such an unstoppable spiral, according to research by the Trouw newspaper, that eight out of ten parishes are in the red and will have to be closed.
From 1970 to 2008, 400 Catholic churches were demolished or converted. Since then, the rate has accelerated dramatically. Two churches, on average, close every week. One fifth of all the churches in Holland have already been converted.
Holland still has six thousand churches. Up to 80 percent of these will lose their religious function in the coming years. There is a shortage of money and faithful and demolition is looming.
Also sold was the Cathedral of St. Catherine in Utrecht, bought by the adjacent museum of religious art. Since 1853 all the priests of Holland were consecrated in that cathedral.
Fifty years ago there were 2.7 million "active" Catholics in the Netherlands. In 2016 there were 173,000. By 2030, there will be just over 63,000.
Between 1970 and 1985, Dutch Catholics fell by 70 percent.

Cardinal Wim Eijk himself explained to the newspaper De Gelderlander that Christianity in Holland is nearing its end. Within ten years, he said, within the archdiocese of Utrecht, the largest and in theory the most active in the whole of Holland, only 15 of the current 280 churches will continue to celebrate mass. One fifth of all Dutch churches have already been converted to other uses. And a Trouw study shows that 25 churches have been converted into mosques.

I saw it years ago when I visited Amsterdam. I was harassed by Arabs, Muslims. Also in France. Everything happening there is what I long ago predicted.

I wonder what the state of Protestantism is in the Netherlands? Rightly or wrongly, I’ve always thought of it as a mostly Protestant country.
So tolerant and open that they have destroyed their own culture. I believe Rotterdam is actually majority muslim.
Me too. The Netherlands has always been religiously tolerant.
I was living in Maastricht in the south when John Paul II came for a visit. The city basically shut down to welcome him and so everyone could see him ... in the Popemobile if nowhere else.
This makes me so sad My Huguenot ancestors left from there to come to NYC on the New Netherland in 1623...
They had fled from France to Holland where they could worship God in the way they wished to in accordance with the Holy Bible ...

Not surprising. The Dutch are very liberal, as a group. At least, the last ~several decades.
Only fairly recently has any pushback been seen from the likes of their Party for Freedom or similar. However, it may be too little, too late for them.

Christians of all stripes are a fading minority in Netherlands and most of Europe. Liberalism and secularism have infected and nearly destroyed both Catholicism and protestantism in Western Europe over the last 50 years.
Thankfully we now have a pope who recognizes that the solution to the problem is to triple down on both liberalism and Muslim immigration.

I guess times have changed them. the ones I knew were all very straight-up people and quite patriotic about the Netherlands too
ALL post-Christian countries have become Muslim. Nihilism cannot stand up to Faith…(even misplaced faith.)

Maybe not quite replaced, but it’s a safe bet that there are now more practicing Muslims in the Netherlands, as well as Belgium, France, and Sweden (with the rest of Western Europe quickly moving to join them).

but even assuming it is as-yet incomplete, the Islamic invasion continues ... so will eventually take over the country ... especially as there is no really serious visible effort to reverse it
And this is supposed to be progress.
