In a head-to-head matchup in the race for governor of Texas, Republican Governor Greg Abbott leads Democratic challenger Beto O'Rourke, 52 - 37 percent, according to a Quinnipiac (KWIN-uh-pea-ack) University poll of Texas registered voters released today. Republicans back Abbott 90 - 5 percent, independents back Abbott 47 - 37 percent, and Democrats back O'Rourke 87 - 6 percent.
A majority of voters, 54 percent, say O'Rourke is too liberal, 3 percent say he is too conservative, and 35 percent say he is about right.
Forty-one percent of voters say Abbott is too conservative while 6 percent say he is too liberal, and 49 percent say he is about right.

Voters were asked who would do a better job handling six issues...
the economy: 60 percent say Abbott, while 32 percent say O'Rourke; gun policy: 60 percent say Abbott, while 33 percent say O'Rourke; the situation at the Mexican border: 58 percent say Abbott, while 35 percent say O'Rourke; election laws: 55 percent say Abbott, while 40 percent say O'Rourke; the response to the coronavirus: 54 percent say Abbott, while 39 percent say O'Rourke; abortion: 49 percent say Abbott, while 41 percent say O'Rourke.
Asked to choose the most urgent issue facing Texas today, the Texas-Mexico border tops the list (33 percent), followed by the economy (11 percent), abortion (9 percent), COVID-19 (8 percent), and election laws (8 percent).
There are wide disparities on the most urgent issue depending on political party.
Among Republicans, 58 percent say the Texas-Mexico border is the most urgent issue, followed by the economy (14 percent), schools (4 percent), and crime (4 percent).
Among Democrats, the most urgent issues are COVID-19 (16 percent), election laws (16 percent), abortion (15 percent), and health care (12 percent).
Among independents, 32 percent rank the Texas-Mexico border as Texas' most urgent issue, followed by abortion (10 percent), the economy (9 percent), and election laws (9 percent).
A slight majority, 51 percent, support Texas building a wall along the state's border with Mexico, while 45 percent oppose it. This is largely unchanged from September.
In today's poll, Republicans support building a wall 85 - 14 percent, Democrats oppose building a wall 86 - 10 percent, and independents are evenly split 48 - 48 percent.
Abbott is probably up even further than this.
“Forty-one percent of voters say Abbott is too conservative while 6 percent say he is too liberal, and 49 percent say he is about right.”
That’s a pretty sad stat. Only thing I can think of is the abortion stuff that would truly piss off women/libs.
A couple of months ago they stated they had changed their polling methods. Rich Baris stated that their new methods were similar to his methods. If that is the case, this poll doesn’t surprise me. Those other polls that show only six point leads or “dead heats” are, in my opinion, BS.
Robert Francis is saddened
Perhaps he’ll take another roadtrip to New Mexico to cry and eat dirt.
I’ve been thinking for some time now, that given our economic situation and the covid response from blue states, this great migration is resulting in blue states becoming more blue and red states becoming more red....
Here’s an article that basically defines the idea...
At this point I think that “Robert Francis O’Rourke” aka Beto, has been promised something good if he makes the Texas effort. He is getting large money from the coasts and I think it probable that Biden has promised an Administration post should he lose.
In terms of the background, O’Rourke may have been the only ‘D’ with sufficient name recognition to have a chance without losing a ‘D’ US House vote. Likely, there was hope that Lt COL West would savage Abbot in the primaries. I have liked Allen but not in this race.
Maybe a campaign speech standing on the counter of a Waffle House would help
COVID-19 and election laws are the top issues among Dems? With abortions almost tied with those two issues?
Looks like most Dems must watch mainstream media and the View.
Even more scary is that they do not consider the border, the economy or crime as one of the top 5 issues.
Truly a bizzaro world that they live in.
Remember when, according to DemonRatz, "Cultural Appropriation" was a bad thing?
I'm offended that he's pretending to be a Texan.
Does that poll take into account all the migrant vermin voters who will probably participate in the election?
but Beto’s name sounds like a Horn BETO BETO BETO
California and NY millionaires need to send Beta MORE MONEY.
NOW!!!!
Nobody can incinerate liberal campaign cash like Beta.
O’rourke is becoming the perpetual candidate like Harold Stassen was.
So the Democrats are building a dictatorship and a fake Hispanic runs in Texas on a platform of taking people’s guns. If that election is fair, Bozo the clown would win it over Beto.
And this is a Quinnipiac poll. Wait until a real poll comes out= Beto The Fake Mexican will trail by 20 points.
