Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-Fla.) said Tuesday he's spoken directly with former President Donald Trump about installing Trump as House speaker if Republicans win control of the chamber in the midterms, reviving an idea he pushed over the summer that was largely dismissed by all but the most extreme right fringes of the GOP.
When asked at a news conference whether he'd spoken with Trump about the idea, a beaming Gaetz—one of the most hard-right representatives in Congress—responded: "I have," though he wouldn't go into further details.
Gaetz launched a fundraising effort in the summer after he promised to nominate Trump as speaker if the GOP retakes the House, though Trump associates denied he had any interest in the role.
The idea did gather some steam among high-profile, far-right Republicans, like Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-Colo.) and Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.), who said she "would love" for Trump to be speaker and for House Republicans to impeach President Joe Biden

No bias in this story. None whatsoever!
What happened to Forbes?
“one of the most hard-right representatives in Congress”
Oh my! Would you look at the scare words! Hard-right! Scary.
Not happening
"You don't think that's scary? That bill could become law!"
They have a bunch of millenial Leftist pissants on their staff.
That’s a particularly strange picture of former Florida basketball coach Billy Donovan!
Could have used Billy last night, UGGGGH!
The new Billy (Napier) is no fun for opposing fans. He seems like a normal person who is a very good football coach. Also, I think Mullen might make a pretty good analyst. Win-win.
So SICK of this crap.
I absolutely love the Napier hire, exactly what Florida needed, the CEO-Type who focuses on recruiting, which Mullen was sadly lacking in.
“Extreme right fringes,” “hard-right,” “far-right.” Just in the excerpt. Imagine the loaded crap in the rest of it.
Trump wants to be president. He doesn’t want to be speaker.
“one of the most hard-right representatives in Congress”
No kidding! No bias. None whatsoever.
He’s got such super-human strength, endurance, and capacity for work that he could probably add the Speaker job and not break a sweat to his campaigning job. I doubt that he would be both Speaker AND POTUS, but wouldn’t that be sweet? There must be something in the constitution that says you can’t simultaneously be in two or three branches of government. Of course, that would play havoc with the succession chain.
IF Trump were to run and win a seat in the Congress and IF the gop-e won....oh, boy....that’s be political theater to never miss.
I’ve heard that the Speaker is not required to be a member of Congress. Thus this discussion.
I still remember that he swore to high heaven early this year that he had a large majority of GOP House members who were ready to expel Lizard Cheney from her Republican Party post in the House. When it came time to vote in secret, she kept her position by a wide margin.
