The same predictions of doom and bloodshed keep coming from gun-control activists. They warn us of pending disaster should Pennsylvania become the 22nd state to adopt so-called constitutional carry rules that would allow law-abiding adults who legally own a handgun to conceal-carry it without a permit. Thirty-four states, including Pennsylvania, already allow open carry without a permit.
With the U.S. Supreme Court set to decide how the Second Amendment applies to people's ability to defend themselves outside the home, the debate in states like Pennsylvania matter.

Newsweek?????Seriously???
Lol. Liberals seldom have anything to do with common sense.
The 2nd Amendment places no restriction on where a person shall be able to defend themselves. "Shall not be infringed" is not hard to understand.
I don’t pretend to know a lot about guns. We have them, I go to the range with hubby now and then, of course we support 2A, etc. One thing I’ve never understood is conceal vs open carry. Maybe I’m missing something, but it seems to make much more sense (and safer?) to have open carry- no “surprises”. For women, especially.
So then it's really a "sort of Constitutional carry" bill.
Unfortunately, Tommie the Commie Wolf has no commonsense. It will be vetoed.
The surprise factor is a big benefit.
Concealed, you can walk into stores and eateries and not get told “get out, we don’t like guns here.
When there are lots of CCWs, robbers have to worry more, more uncertainty.
With open carry, you have to worry that some thug who wants a gun will come up behind you, bash you over the head, and take yours.
Disagree - makes for a more polite society if one just assumes everybody else is armed. They don’t need to see what you may have.
If you read the newspapers, diaries and archives about the 49`ers from the east coast traveling to California, you will find out that they were ALLL PACKIN HEAT. They never heard of S0-called “Constitutional Carry” term because it was COMMON PRACTICE to carry a side arm EVERYWHERE. DUUHHHHH ...what morons there are in the Supreme Court and the State courts do not even the precedents of the Second Amendment and do not even know their own history of their ancestors. Idiots!
Yeah, sort of, you buy a handgun and you have a background check. I assume the bill doesn't require a background check to carry, as the current permit to carry license is today. There wouldn't be any point if it did. But you did pass a background check when you purchased your weapon. I suppose you "borrow" and carry w/o a background check.
I am all for zero background checks for everyone and carry weapon however, whenever and wherever you like. The only people who can't possess a weapon have been convicted of a crime and are presently in prison. Criminals who pay their debt to society get a free slate and full 2A rights. It's not like background checks stop criminals today. They are just a hoop that law abiding citizens have to jump thru and also pay for. Real criminals don't do background checks or try to buy legal weapons.
Background checks are a jobs program at every county sheriff's office in PA ... they have someone that processes carry permit applications and enter the background check info that goes to the state police.
It’s more than just background checks. There are places where you can’t carry a firearm, and I’ll bet the bank that the state capitol building is one of them. There are probably people who can be forbidden from owning firearms. The Second Amendment contains no such restrictions so in reality this is a slightly less restrictive gun control bill.
Ping.
I am confused, guns are bad. This is why we have gun free zones like schools and other places so people never get hurt........sarc
I am not a gun guy but there should be zero limits where people can be armed. Assume everyone is carrying.....it it a powerful, powerful concept. A great equalizer. Folks who don’t want others to have guns actually want inequality.
Correct. All public places, airports, train stations, government buildings and schools should be accessible to gun carriers. I'll give one exception - jail. Leave you gun in the car when you visit your favorite felon. I can respect the argument that a private business may turn away people who carry. There a number of businesses that I don't frequent just because of that. Doesn't bother me. It's their property, but their loss of business.
Here in rural PA, we do assume everyone’s armed, and we’re still not always polite.
Too many men around here are carrying more liquor than they can run with. I’m not against open carry but there will be casualties. Bad-tempered old boys behind every truck.
Heck, not too far from here and not many years ago, someone winged Santa in a Christmas parade.
So far I’ve not found anywhere I’d rather dwell. :)
I agree about Newsweek, but John Lott is THE expert on the issue of guns and the law, particularly the effect of increased legal concealed carry on the crime rate.
We don’t see much of that - everybody keeps a low profile. Idiots just tend to go away and nobody ever asks where they went.
Oh, we can't do that here. Everyone's related to everyone. :D
Same here.
