CNN anchor Don Lemon said Monday on his show “Don Lemon Tonight” that Rep. Thomas Massie (R-KY) has no empathy for parents who have to bury their children, referencing the deadly school shooting at Oxford High School in Michigan.
Lemon said, “Then there is Congressman Thomas Massie wishing you seasons greetings by decking the halls with guns and ammo. Ammo. Let’s not forget the shooting suspect in Michigan in the Michigan high school was searching for ammo on his phone in class. I guess the congressman forgot about that because he’s doubling down today saying he’s shocked, shocked that anyone would take offense to his Christmas card days after fourteen teenagers were shot to death.”

This is the United States and what we have become in 2021.
The most valuable defense against such episodes as happened in Michigan, is to introduce school children to the full disclosure concerning sidearms of all kinds, from pistols to various kinds of semi-automatic rifles, if only to demystify the whole mythology that has grown up regarding projectile weapons. Had this been done, years earlier, the 15-year old would have been much more quickly identified, and corrective action taken to steer him away from this utter fascination with guns and their potentials for mischief. Clearly, Representative Massie has fulfilled this expectation within his own family, familiarizing his family with the significance and proper methods of grooming, maintaining, care and respect for sidearms. Training in safety, the proper use and storage of sidearms, and hands-on training in the use and actual target practice by youth as they progress through school and out into adult life, would do much to overcome this smash-and-grab behavior of certain elements who have become almost endemic in our national culture today.
Don Lemon is reaching out for the wrong interpretation here.
