I partially agree with the author. If carjacked with a gun in your face, surrender your car and keys.
When they go to drive away and are distracted, pull your pistol and shoot them in the back of the head. (This is legal where I live; check your local laws first.) Failing that, shoot to disable your own car. You did remember to bring your pistol, right? :P
There is no such thing as a safe area.
Don’t ask me how I know unless you have a lot of time.
That will just anger them and they will kill you on the spot.
I suspect rather that someone was attempting to "downplay" the situation.
Or perhaps the equivocation is attributable merely to the general "dumbing-down" of society.

FYI. Carjacking is actually a federal crime now.
Car theft is another example how not prosecuting crime under $1000 results in chaos. This is the opposite of the “broken window” policy Rudy used to make NY, NY a livable place.

Suspects will approach the victim and then rob them at gunpoint, police said. If you feel you are being followed or feel there is a potential threat in your vicinity, you should consider driving to a public area or police station rather than to your home,” police said. You asked to remain in the locked vehicle and call 911.

It’s not so much about taking your property. It’s about humiliating you so they can feel superior. In the olden days when theft was about just taking your money, the unspoken pact was if you give up your purse (you can guess how old this pact was) then you didn’t get stabbed with a sword. The phrase, hilariously coopted by a Democratic politician for a tax proposal, was, “Stand and deliver.”
I’m upgrading from a pocket carry to an ankle holster. Much easier to access when every moment counts.
If everyone left a car length between their car and the one in front then few people would be able to get in the left turn lane. This could lead to frustration and road rage
