Europe's first cold spell of the heating season has arrived, pressuring power prices higher as freezing temperatures ushers in increased power demand to heat building structures across the central-west region.
German day-ahead power prices jumped to the second-highest level ever, 273.89 euros per megawatt-hour. Day-ahead power prices are also higher in France and Netherlands.
The Deutscher Wetterdienst (DWD), the German Meteorological Service, released a weather note on Tuesday warning of frigid and snowy weather.

Big wind and big sun coming up short in winter.
Shocking!
Who would have guessed?
Now is the winter of our discontent
More and more we see simple economics at play treated as if it were some sort of confounding, “mean-spirited” act.
I love my nat gas furnace.
I hope I’ll be dead before Dems shut off the nat gas. Or price it so high I can’t afford to use it.
Shouldn’t they turn off the power for Ghia.
I wouldn’t have. The cost of our firewood is exactly the same this year as last.
Love mine too. Even if they turn off the electricity I’ll still have heat. My powerpile system generates it’s own milivolt electricity. Just enough to run the gas valve.
Cold? Burn your solar panels,
I filled both propane tanks early. Enough fuel for 2 yrs.
Global Warming still running amok.
When will we start taking global cooling warnings seriously?
Why , Merkel gave them the best power ever , Wind and solar ,LOL
All the nuke plants the Germans ditched would sure come in handy, right now.
The two-story house I had in Washington (state) had a propane fireplace in the downstairs "bonus room". Great for power outages, and with the downstairs location and the "hot air rises" effect, it would keep the whole house toasty.
Electric power where we were was notoriously unreliable (50 foot tall power lines, 150 foot tall fir trees separated by 20 feet...if somebody farted a tree limb (or tree) would take down power).
When it’s cold, send money.
When it’s hot, send more.
Green needs its cash flow
And so, therefore,
Send money when it’s warm
And money when it’s cool
For all climate changing’s
A money sucking tool.
When it’s hot, send money.
When it’s cool, do the same.
Green hungers for money,
But it’s you’re to blame.
Sometimes simple is best! And old tech works for decades in most cases.
I thought things were bad but if it’s going to snow in Germany that’s the last straw. This is the end.
