CVS Pharmacy announced on Thursday that it would close roughly 900 stores in the next three years.
The company said in a statement it was "evaluating changes in population, consumer buying patterns and future health needs to ensure it has the right kinds of stores in the right locations for consumers and for the business."
"We remain focused on the competitive advantage provided by our presence in thousands of communities across the country, which complements our rapidly expanding digital presence," CEO Karen S. Lynch said in the statement.

I do not see how they have made it this long.
Based on my shopping patterns I don’t see how many brick an mortar stores stay in business. I also don’t see how we can afford to deliver cat food much longer. I get about 50# worth delivered to the door every 5 weeks included in the discounted price compared to what I pay at local sources and I don’t have to settle for what is available.
Most supplies I buy online because going to town to get them is a multi-store scavenger hunt that hardly ever ends up with just what I need but what I settle for. At Tractor Supply the standard answer to “did you find everything you need?” is “NO, I found some of what I can make do.” I tell local merchants that hopefully suggest they can order what they don’t have that I can’t buy what they don’t stock and can order it myself with far less hassle. it is sad really. Small business is the bedrock of some of our communities but also the owners have been the most well off people around us.
However, the one in the nearby larger town always has business.

I guess they will steal off of front porches when they can’t steal from stores.
Wait, they already do!

CVS also stopped selling cigarettes at all its stores, while Walgreens continues to do so.
So go woke, go broke I guess

I know that, but people go to drug stores for
more than scripts. Over the counter drugs, for instance.

Walgreens must be all smiles over this news. The Mrs., my daughter and myself all got jabbed at Walgreens.

We have a few locations locally where they are literally right across the street from each other.

Is the former Long’s Drugs going out of business? I thought it was the former Eckard. 😀

CVS bought Long's in 2008. Long's was a mostly west coast pharmacy.
CVS bought Eckard in 2004. Eckard was a mostly east coast pharmacy.
CVS started out as a New England pharmacy in 1963.

p.s.
I was piggybacking on your reminiscence. Long's was my go-to drug store when I lived in California.
Eckard was my go-to drug store when I lived in Florida.

I lived in CA until about ten years ago and Long's was my go-to pharmacy as well.
Never (yet) been to FL (still waiting for Trump's invitation)...

Hope my Walgreens won’t be one of them, I get four of my prescriptions from them. The rest I order from the larger facility that supplies the hospital that did my surgery.
