A middle school in Oregon is pausing in-person instruction for two weeks over classroom disruptions that officials say are caused by some students “struggling with the socialization skills necessary for in-person learning.”
It comes after the school was forced to provide distance learning over the past year due to the COVID-19 pandemic, starting in spring 2020. The school was able to provide some in-person instruction in the spring of 2021 but still continued with distance learning.
“The shifts in learning methods and isolation caused by COVID-19 closures and quarantines have taken a toll on the well-being of our students and staff,” Superintendent Danna Diaz told families and staff. “We are finding that some students are struggling with the socialization skills necessary for in-person learning, which is causing disruption in school for other students.”
Steve Padilla, assistant director of public relations for the Reynolds School District, told The Oregonian, “It’s not just fighting, it’s disruptive behaviors as well. Students are disrupting other students, making it hard for them to learn.”
Reynolds Middle School in Fairview will have distance learning for about two weeks starting Nov. 22. Students will have Nov. 18 and 19 off to allow teachers and support staff to prepare for the transition, Reynolds superintendent Danna Diaz announced.
During the planned two weeks of distance-learning, school administrators and staff will put in place “operational safety procedures” before the the school resumes in-person learning Dec. 7.
The measure is to ensure the school “has the necessary social-emotional supports and safety protocols in place to provide a safe learning environment for all students.”
Yeah but their anti-social skills are through the roof.
Students struggling with social skills so naturally they cancel
classes which provide an environment to socialize.

Shackles and gags for the disruptive students? Seriously, they “suspend” the entire school instead of the “disruptive elements”? I guess they’re GOING FOR EQUITY!
When society breaks down you end up with feral humans.
Commie school needs more practice at indoctrination of commie kids.
What a load of BS. Parents with functional brains would realize they are paying for this crap.
Whether or not the school is “an environment to socialize” depends on one and only one thing.
Diversity + Proximity = Violence.
Some of this behavior may just be the excitement of being back in class. It may take a few months of uninterrupted classroom time before most of them calm down and work with the routine. Some will need to re-learn how to put their phones away and pay attention in class.
It’s “majority minority” in attendance.

‘socialization skills’?
We always called this ‘good manners’; and we learned it at our mothers’ knees.
(We also learned a lot of it in school; but I guess schools don’t have time for that anymore; they’re too busy promoting ideology...)
I suppose that I ought to be pleased that my great grand father and his Dad probably waved to those Pioneers and said, Bon Voyage, or whatever.
racsis code for nonwhite trouble makers... right?
Translation these kids have problems with Authority and got a year of solid difference in teaching and they don’t like the school system
Gee kids acting up in school. Wonder how that’s been handled in the past? Seems like giving them two weeks off would make the problem worse not better.
Reynolds school district. There was something about them once before that was very odd.
I’m amazed that they make public how miserable they are doing educating children in Fairview (Portland).
..... Well Then ..... Maybe we should HALT our World and NATIONAL influence Due to the President 'Struggling With Leadership Skills' ...........
I live in Oregon and its a mess. My 6 year old son will never set foot in a public school.
I should of named him Huck Finn instead of Isaiah Williams.
I seem to remember being bent over mama’s knees a few times. After being sent out to pick the switch that was soon to be introduced to my rear end. A special touch, so to speak.
