Jon Gruden is done coaching in the NFL, but he is not done with the NFL.
The Raiders coach who resigned after it was discovered he used racial and misogynistic language in emails with former Washington Football Team General Manager Bruce Allen sued the NFL and Commissioner Roger Goodell for orchestrating the “selective leaking” of the emails that led to his resignation.
“Jon Gruden has filed suit against the National Football League and Commissioner Goodell in the Eighth Judicial District Court in Clark County, Nevada,” Adam Hosmer-Henner, Gruden’s attorney, wrote. “The complaint alleges that the defendants selectively leaked Gruden’s private correspondence to the Wall Street Journal and New York Times in order to harm Gruden’s reputation and force him out of his job.
“There is no explanation or justification for why Gruden’s emails were the only ones made public out of the 650,000 emails collected in the NFL’s investigation of the Washington Football Team.”
For their part, the NFL denies Gruden’s allegations.
“The allegations are entirely meritless and the NFL will vigorously defend against these claims,” the NFL said in a statement.
Gruden sent the emails while he was serving as a Monday Night Football analyst for ESPN. The emails were collected and analyzed along with 650,000 other emails as part of the investigation into the Washington Football Team’s workplace culture. The NFL has declined to release all of the emails.
In one of the emails, Gruden said that NFL Players Association President DeMaurice Smith, who is black, had lips the size of “michellin tires.” In another email exchange, Gruden commented on a meme showing a female referee by saying, “nice job roger.”
Gruden resigned soon after the release of the emails, saying that he did not want to become a “distraction” for the Raiders.

I think he would have been far more effective by NOT resigning.
I also don’t understand why these guys who end up with difficult-to-defend positions, why they don’t just buy a quick GoDaddy website. They can put all their defensive stuff up on that website and when they get asked about it, say that it’s all up on http://www.MediaCanKissMyAss.com or whatever URL they buy.
Good!! Roger Goodell sucks!
Discovery could be fun!
He got really bad advice when he agreed to resign and allowed himself to be “cancelled”. You only win when you fight hard from the beginning of the assault. You already lost and are on the defensive when you seek justice from some biased judge.

And THAT is the problem. Some knucklehead at the League office selectively leaked Gruden’s emails. They either were working at the direction of the Commissioner, or were using their position to work out a grudge against Gruden. Either way the League pays.
I was in the middle of a legal dispute with my landlord, who was committing violent crimes against me. So I followed my own advice, posting video of the crimes on my website.
The judge ordered me not to post on that website while the restraining order and stipulation order was in place. I had no idea that judges have this much power over our first amendment rights to freedom of speech and press. But the order was so specific that I could have just opened a second website and started posting there...
Actually, isn't it the FORMER Washington Redskins?
Once you resign it weakens your case. Make them fire you and then sue for wrongful termination.
Gruden deserves a nine-figure settlement.
I imagine the NFL referee mafia will make the Raiders pay for this insurrection.
***Why would the referees care one way or the other?
Roger Goodell was waiting for any opportunity.
Racial language is comparing the size of someone’s lips to an automobile tire?
Did he get any money from his contract even though he resigned? There had to have been some sort of deal. Just ask in’
