Fairbourne is a tiny Welsh village of only 700 people, tucked between mountains and the Irish sea. Founded around 1865, the pace is so slow that "Dragon's Teeth" tank traps from World War II still dot the beach to fend off a German invasion that never came. There's nothing particularly outstanding about Fairbourne to attract visitors. It's just a lovely little place to live.
Or it was. In 2014, the authorities decided that Fairbourne was at high risk of flooding from climate change. Let's just ponder that for a moment. Seven years have gone by since the arbitrary decision that Fairbourne was at risk. During that time, the little community has continued to thrive. It hasn't been flooded out of existence. In fact, the sea level has risen only 4 inches in the past century.
The people of Fairbourne are not asking to be evacuated. They're hanging tough, angry that they are being asked to leave their homes because of some nebulous threat. It's true that Fairbourne is built on a salt marsh that is below sea level at spring high tide, and the community is also at the mouth of an estuary. Nevertheless, it's been there since 1865, and no one who lives in Fairbourne is complaining about anything other than being forced out of house and home.

Exactly.
Or not a mariner.
The Dutch showed the way! Damn, are we going to surrender to ocean?
Well that settles it then. Listen to your betters.
Pssssstttttt! Move up the hill. Adapt or die. Not a hard choice.

So you’re with Gretel and the Green Gangsters.
The Eco fascists and communists.
Why?
Sea wall and marsh. This is an economic decision. When does protecting the town become uneconomical? Let the locals decide what level of taxation to support maintenance and drainage they are willing to pay. Those who find it too burdensome can sell to others who will be willing to pay. If buyers cannot be found, it’s time to abandon the town.

Utter lie.
It is not being abandoned “because of the effects of the climate crisis”’
Unless the effects referred to are hysteria and big brother fascism.
“Looks to me as if they could just move up the hill slightly.”
And what? You actually take this seriously?
“I will translate. The elites want their picturesque little hideway for themselves”
Yep - the very first thing I thought as well.
They’ll force them folks to leave, and a swank resort or expensive villas will be built.
If only I could put money on that guess...
Best comment.
This is a manufactured crisis just like COVID. The elites have an end goal, and it’s nothing about viruses or climate change. If people are not living in fear, the elites will MAKE them live in fear. That’s how control is established.
Of course not. Even if it were true, there is a very simple solution. I offered that simple solution to point out the stupidity of the claims that the people must abandon their village.
I believe this is a waste of breath. Or, out sarcasm has been misplaced. Have an awesome weekend.
Ferk Jer Berden.
Liars- This of course is soemwhere else- but the left claim that seas are risign everywhere- the photos below suggest otherwise-
"It's true that Fairbourne is built on a salt marsh that is below sea level at spring high tide,"
Ah- now the truth- the marsh is sinking-
“...risen only 4 inches in the past century....”
Are they really certain the sea has risen? I live near the ocean and it appears to me that people see the beach disappear and say the sea is rising when it is actually beach erosion from wind and waves. The prevailing winds are out of the NE so the sand goes out to sea and forms a reef or goes to beaches south where the erosion happens as well.
Do they have a right to keep and bear arms in Wales?
The sea is rising and land is either subsiding or rising everywhere. Sea level rise had been almost completely constant since 1860. It is not accelerating and it is almost completely unrelated to human activity.
“95% of village is basically below seal level ala New Orleans with only a giant seawall holding back the ocean.”
By that logic most of coastal Netherlands should be abandoned.
