The Chinese Communist Party has passed a "historical resolution", cementing Xi Jinping's status in political history.
The document, a summary of the party's 100-year history, addresses its key achievements and future directions.
It is only the third of its kind since the founding of the party - the first was passed by Mao Zedong in 1945 and the second by Deng Xiaoping in 1981.
It was passed on Thursday at the sixth plenary session, one of China's most important political meetings.
As only the third Chinese leader to have issued such a resolution, the move aims to establish Mr Xi as an equal to party founder Mao and his successor Deng.
Some observers see the resolution as Mr Xi's latest attempt to turn back decades of decentralisation by Chinese leaders that began under Deng and continued through other leaders like Jiang Zemin - a sign that China might be moving back to a so-called cult of personality.
In 2018, China scrapped the two-term limit on the presidency, effectively allowing him to remain in power for life.

History repeats itself. Over and over and over again.
Whistling past the graveyard.
The other two resolutions were Mao and Deng.
I believe this is a significant development and one that will be downplayed by western media.
This type of resolution in China gives Xi basically the authority to remake China in any image he wants.
Xi pretty much all but sealed this deal in 2018 for him to be a Lifetime Dictator.....this just welds together any frayed edges so he can do whatever he desires.
“History repeats itself. Over and over and over again.”
Yep, Xi is just the latest “emperor” of the new dynasty - the Xi dynasty.
And Chinese have lived under dynasties for so many generations that the acceptance of such rulers is pretty much in their blood-or more accurately, their genes.
Don’t expect even a little revolt by the Chinese over this event.
And considering how much their standard of living has improved over the last 20 or so years, and how much China’s influence has grown the Chinese have little to complain about
#1 sucess: Pulled off a successful sneak attack on the United States and obtained a rapid & easy unconditional surrender...
Millions of dead japs are spinning in their graves or ash jugs because they didn’t think of doing it in December 1941...
However, the stinking japs would have been screwed anyways since the United States of America was still a Nation of freedom-loving patriots back then...
From my view
We, the United States, have to work with him for now.
And that is not a great negotiating position.
