I'm amazed that the defense is allowing Kyle to testify at all.
In fact, he's right, but not in the sense he thinks. Rittenhouse went to Kenosha to help oppose the lawless rioting and protect his fellow citizens. We have gotten far too used to deferring action to the state or to para-governmental personnel like lawyers. That kind of deference is appropriate for serfs or slaves, not citizens.
I think Rittenhouse demanded to testify to make that plain.
Judging from his testimony, this kid is as close to a saint as you can get
I understand the urge, but that is why the judge is supposed to instruct the jury not to consider that. Defendants have a right not to testify in their own trials for a reason.
There's a move to allow jurors to ask questions, at least in civil cases, but I think it's a terrible idea. Jurors frequently want to ask questions that are prohibited by the rules of evidence, or are irrelevant to the actual issues they are asked to resolve. Let the lawyers do their jobs.
Wow, very powerful stuff. Pure emotion.
His mom was crying too but Kyle was probably first to cry.
I’m watching this on OAN and an unwanted solicitor from at&t calls with an unsolicited recording. It said to press 3 to speak with a representative. So I did and placed the phone in front of the TV and walked away, so they can be annoyed listening to Kyle’s testimony. Let them be inconvenienced.
Idiot move.
The strategy might be to dispel the media narrative and the jury’s pre-conceived notions of the falsehoods the media pushed.
This might be the slam dunk on the prosecution’s hopes that they will find him guilty despite the trial evidence.
Yes- you can tell he’s reliving it as he describes what happened.
No way that's the logic here. If the prosecution did such a bad job then letting him testify only adds risk. There must be something they feel they need to get out onto the record for some reason. It could just be as simple as the lawyers doing some CYA, e.g. if there is a risk of 2nd degree charges they may try to reduce the charge to 3rd degree or negligence through his testimony. Again IANAL just seen enough TV.

OMG. While not my call, my opinion is that this is not wise, not good at all.
It humanizes Kyle by having him take the stand.
If he’s telling the truth as he sees it, he’ll be ok. He is describing as best he can what went on and we saw it on the video.
Agreed. In my opinion his direct testimony makes sense of everything he was doing. Destroys the media narrative- but I’m not a lawyer.
My heart broke watching him, you could tell he was seeing everything as he was testifying. Anyone who can’t see that’s a really good kid is evil.
I’ve said all along that the biggest point in Kyle’s favor is that he looks like he’s about 12 years old.
To a certain extent. But regardless of how many times a jury gets told that they should take no meaning into a defendant not taking the stand, it's been shown that juries still consider it. Letting him take the stand probably outweighs the risks in the defense's eyes.
Lot of jury is women.
If you don’t cry, it’s cold and unusual to them.
It’s a 17 year old dealing with an irreversible choice.
I also think it was quite genuine...he wasn’t silently sniffling or tearing up. It was embarrassing, which is what grief and real sorrow does to you.
