Hertz customers are attempting to sue the rental car company after being falsely arrested and sometimes jailed for months after the company listed the rental cars they paid for as stolen.
More than 165 people from several states have filed legal complaints against Hertz for 'egregious business malpractices,' according to civil litigation ongoing in U.S. Bankruptcy Court in Wilmington.
The news made national headlines last week bringing forward another hundred claimants, lead attorney Francis Alexander Malofiy told DailyMail.com.
Each customer claims they were falsely arrested for driving a stolen vehicle despite having receipts confirming their rentals.
The furious claimants say that Hertz used an unreliable computer system and filed false police reports which lead to them being falsely arrested and sometimes jailed for months.
While imprisoned under false pretenses some of the claimants suffered heart attacks, panic attacks, seizures, and strokes as some lost custody of their children or lost their homes, Malofiy said.
Hertz filed for bankruptcy during the pandemic putting the claims on hold. Bankruptcy court judge Mary Walrath heard arguments on Thursday to decide whether the claims will be heard in court.

I once had a similar experience at a local gas station/kwikstop that’s big here in PA. You get a “Pump First” card which allows you you get gas and THEN go in to pay. I stopped to refuel and was refused. Upon inquiry I was told I hadn’t paid for a previous fill-up, so was locked out at the pump. Upon cogitation I remembered paying with a $100 bill. I told them so. And I said if they’d check their security video I’d also asked the sweet young clerk to give me four $5 bills in place of a twenty, which she did. They checked. I was right. And the sweet young clerk was never seen there again. Apparently she pocketed the “C” note, assuming she’d get away with it....and she wasn’t even blonde! What frosted it for me was that the company never even apologized for my inconvenience or anything. I don’t hold grudges. I let Jesus handle it.
Nah. They should be awarded $450k instead of a bunch of trespassing illegal alien invaders.

Update on the old ad:
“Let Hertz Put You In The Hot Seat”...
“When we say Hertz, we MEAN Hurtz!!
Not yet. Take it back ASAP. I'm not kidding. One customer had his auto towed from his driveway while still under contract. They listed the vehicle as stolen when THEY are the ones who had it towed out of his driveway. AND called the cops on him! Take it back and make sure all of the paperwork is in order with them giving you a signed release.
“These people should be awarded the cars they were falsely accused of stealing, at a minimum.”
This has also been reported on several auto enthusiast sites.
They had better get something beyond $20 off their next rental. It has to hurt. These people were seriously injured.
How about “YOU get a Tesla! and YOU get a Tesla!”
“Hope they go bankrupt.”
Hasn’t stopped them yet!
One of my buds learned to record everything on the entire car on his phone before renting. Where did he learn this? HERTZ. Every small “dent” or “scratch” or “dirt” they charged him. On the actual contract, if anything happens if you return it overnight, it is your problem. So if someone steals the catalytic converter overnight while parked, you are responsible. Effing Hertz.
In Toronto, a fellow rented a truck from Enterprise and a week later, got a bill for $3,300.... article makes it sound like the charges were for damages that occurred when the truck was dropped off after hours and somebody came on to the lot and swiped the catalytic converter....
“The company put each of them at risk of being shot by police”
They could rename the company to Killahertz.
A car and their homes they lost but what about custody of their children? And the stress of being falsely arrested and imprisoned.
Hertz explanation makes more sense.
Enterprise will cheat you claiming a scratch. Blame you and charge you if you did not pay the extra insurance fee.
Time to rebrand
Hertz.becomes Heist
Just to set the record straight, past CEO of Hertz Mark Frissora is very much a Conservative.
Yes, his son married Michael Bloomberg’s daughter.
But I can tell you that Mark is now, and has been for the last 25 years that I have known him, staunchly Conservative.
What ever became of 50/60 Hertz customers?
Then why does he run it like a bastion of liberal progressive wokeism?

etc. etc.
Because he is PAST CEO.
He isn’t doing these things.
