ON PRAYER

The Sacred Scriptures urge us to pray always. That seems impossible at first sight; you can't spend your life on your knees. But people pray in many ways. Physical positions and movements, the lotus position for Buddhists, kneeling and folding hands for many Christian faith groups are prayer. Any attention paid to God is prayer.

Whether or not any words are spoken, the actions themselves express awareness of, and communication with, God. As St. Teresa of Avila put it, way back in the 16th century, "For though we are always in the presence of God, it seems to me that those who practice prayer are especially so, because they can see all the time that God is looking at them; whereas others may be in the Lord's presence for several days without ever remembering that God can see them".

The Jesus Label
Read: Colossians 3:12–17

Whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus. Colossians 3:17

“Son, I don’t have much to give you. But I do have a good name, so don’t mess it up.” Those wise, weighty words were uttered by Johnnie Bettis as his son Jerome left home for college. Jerome quoted his father in his American Professional Football Hall of Fame acceptance speech. These sage words that Jerome has carried with him throughout his life have been so influential that he closed his riveting speech with similar words to his own son. “Son, there’s not much that I can give you that’s more important than our good name.”

A good name is vital for believers in Jesus. Paul’s words in Colossians 3:12–17 remind us who it is that we represent (v. 17). Character is like the clothing that we wear; and this passage puts the “Jesus label” of clothing on display: “As God’s chosen people . . . clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience. Bear with each other and forgive one another. . . . And over all these virtues put on love” (vv. 12–14). These aren’t just our “Sunday clothes.” We’re to wear them everywhere, all the time, as God works in us to reflect Him. When our lives are characterized by these qualities, we demonstrate that we have His name.

May we prayerfully and carefully represent Him as He provides what we need.Arthur Jackson

As you evaluate your wardrobe, how “well dressed” are you with Jesus’ character? How can you seek His wisdom, power, and guidance to reflect Him even more clearly?

Father, forgive me when I don’t represent Jesus well. Give me strength and courage to be better dressed for Your glory and Christ’s name’s sake.

Learn more about the importance of living a life that honors Christ.

Dear God:
I ask that no Airman, Coast Guardsman,
Marine, Sailor, Soldier, Reservist, National Guardsman, or Merchant Marine
feel alone or forgotten.

O Israel, hope in the Lord;
For with the Lord there is loving kindness,
And with Him is abundant redemption.
And He will redeem Israel
From all his iniquities.

Psalm 130:7 & 8

Lord God,

Show us how to pray when we can no longer understand the world around us. Enable us to fully trust in you and your will when it seems outside of what we hope for. Grant us stability and understanding and be not dismayed when the tide seems to be turning badly for our nation. Rather to ask in your great and mighty promises and that you know exactly what you’re doing and allowing being done....as it all works toward the good of those who are called by your name.

In Jesus name,
Amen

He Who blessed our forefathers Abraham, Isaac and Jacob - may He bless the fighters of the Israel Defense Force, who stand guard over our land and the cities of our G-d from the border of the Lebanon to the desert of Egypt, and from the Great Sea unto the approach of the Aravah, on the land, in the air, and on the sea.

May HASHEM cause the enemies who rise up against us to be struck down before them. May the Holy One, Blessed is He, preserve and rescue our fighting men from every trouble and distress and from every plague and illness, and may He send blessing and success in their every endeavor.

May He lead our enemies under their sway and may He grant them salvation and crown them with victory. And may there be fulfilled for them the verse: For it is Hashem, your G-d, Who goes with you to battle your enemies for you to save you.

G-d bless and keep your children safe, Alouette.

Good evening, ML...((HUGS))...were you and Blue able to get in one more weekend? A yard sale or two?

A Blessed Lord’s Day and Shavua Tov to you and yours.

Gloomy, gloomy, gloomy here. A little bit of spitting snow, and some sprinkles. A good day to be inside looking out.

It was in the low forties today, and I made the painful decision that it was hibernation time for Blue. I bundled up like i was going to Mars and rode the 28 miles to my brother’s house. He was outside chopping wood for the winter and insulating the hen house.

Yep. Winter is coming. I made the right decision, and even managed to hit a few yard sales on the way...no purchases though.

Then another sister came and picked me up, and we went to lunch, and then visited an old-fashioned Hi-Fi store (probably the only one left in the state!) We sat on couches and listened to different speakers and turntables, schmoozed through the racks of Classic Rock VINYL, and Sis ended up buying a whole new stereo system!

Man ohf man do I love the warm, cozy sound of Analog! And since today was the 6th anniversary of our mom’s passing, it was a very special, nostalgic time in that store, as our childhood was spent going into places just like that with Dad and his records like Beethoven’s 9th, 1812 Overture, Carmina Burana, and Mahler Symphonies to test the speakers. I can’t believe I drove by it several times a week for six years and never went inside!
