The New York state constitution will be amended to say people have the right to clean air and water and a healthy environment, after voters said yes to the measure in a referendum that was part of local elections on Tuesday.
A total of 60.8 percent of voters approved the referendum question, compared to 27 percent against and 11.7 casting blank ballots, with 99 percent of state districts reporting. Supporters of the “yes” option are claiming victory.

Questions remain on whether this environmental right will be truly binding and opponents are already warning that it would create a legal quagmire that could slow down economic development.
“The courts are going to have a big job ahead of them to sort out what exactly this means,” said Peter Bauer, the director of environmental advocacy group Protect the Adirondacks, whose name refers to a vast mountain and lake area in upstate New York, although he did say the vote is a success for people who care about the environment.

§19. Environmental rights. Each person shall have a right to clean air and water, and a healthful environment.
This is going to be a lawyers' full-employment act.
No more smell of manure in the countryside in the spring.
Rush was correct when he noted the communists had infiltrated the environmental movement.
who’s to say what “clean” is? pristine or just not filthy?
what exactly is a “healthful environment”? partying? quiet? all sorts of things could be considered healthful, and at times not.
where does one’s “environment” start and stop?
Question: When they say “clean”, exactly how do they define it?
Everybody wants clean environment and no one wants pollution.
But I’m afraid they’re going to define “clean” in such a way that even tiny, minute particles in the air that don’t affect our health will demand huge costs to businesses szuch that it drives them away.
who’s to say what “clean” is?
Well the Democrat Clean is Exterminate 75% of the population
You can’t have an “environmental” RIGHT.
It’s nonsensical on its face.
The air is NEVER “clean” enough.
The water is NEVER “clean” enough.
Stopping pollution - sure... but it’s already ILLEGAL!! (Except where the legislators and execs have gotten kickbacks from industry to allow it for the peons own good.)
STUPID LUNACY BY SNOWFLAKES.
Environmentalists are like watermelons, Green on the outside,Red on the inside.
At least as clean as the Garden of Eden was when Adam and Eve dwelled there. Not one bit dirtier! No filthy used fig leaves lying around all over the place.
This is the ultimate in stupid. It is meaningless. These clowns should pass a law stating it will only rain when necessary.
What will they do about pollen? Volcanic ash? Plants that emit toxic gases? What about swamps? What about dust storms? All that pollution that blows in from California and China?
The Utah State Legislature passed a law years ago that regulates the height of the Great Salt Lake. Did those legislators’ demented children move to New York?
Water moves , air moves you’re not living in a Box ,LOL
95%.
I thought “life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness” in the Declaration of Independence covered all that.
And what are they gonna do the next time a volcano erupts somewhere in the world and drops ash, soot, and various oxides on New Yawk? Sue the volcano?
We are occupied by a hostile power, because nobody is that stupid. This is aimed at reducing the standard of living to the stone age, but without fire.
Never attribute to stupidity that which can better be explained by malice.
Wrong link! Here’s the info on that case :. http://www.siouxfallsscientists.com/mann-vs-ford.html
Unbelievable idiocy.
“Do you want clean water?”
“No duh, I want dirty water. Please connect the water pipes to a sewer”
What’s next, are they going to have a constitutional right to breathe?
“Duh, I wuz holding my breath all dis time”
Here come the DEC goons driving their gas guzzling SUVs trolling for “environmental crimes.”
Too broad and therefore unenforceable.
Every single citizen of the state will sue every water company in the state out of business.. every land lord. Every manufacturer. Every farm, etc…
How clean is clean water?
Who is responsible for every pipe from the source to the tap?
Expect all manufacturing to leave the state. How clean does the air have to be?
