NYC, 4 labor unions reach agreement on vaccine mandate

Four major labor unions reached an agreement with the city over its vaccine mandate for municipal workers on Thursday, Mayor Bill de Blasio said.

The city successfully negotiated agreements with District Council 37, Teamsters Local 237, Uniformed Sanitationmen's Association Local 831 and SEIU Local 300, de Blasio said in a press release Thursday afternoon.

“As part of this agreement, these unions have agreed to withdraw litigation filed last month which challenged the City’s right to implement the mandate,” the release said.

The agreement will affect approximately 75,000 municipal employees connected to the unions, the release noted.

“Vaccinations are critical to our recovery and our city workforce is leading the way,” de Blasio said in a statement. “Ninety-two precent of city employees have stepped up and gotten vaccinated, and this agreement ensures a fair process for those seeking exemptions.”>snipMembers who submit exemption requests before midnight on Friday will stay on the payroll — with weekly testing — until they receive a decision. If they decide to appeal, they will be placed on leave without pay, the release said.

Unvaccinated employees who have not requested exemptions or whose appeals have been denied, meanwhile, will be placed on unpaid leave through Nov. 30.

Employees who are placed on unpaid leave will be allowed to extend the leave and keep their health insurance plans through June 30 of next year, at which point they will have to leave their jobs if they are not vaccinated, according to the release.

The article is confusing as hell but it seems to me comrade deblasio realizes he screwed up and in allowing the leave to be pushed back to June, 2022, he's throwing it in the new mayors lap. If I'm reading this wrong please advise.

I agree. The new mayor will rescind the mandate and go for either/or.....vaccine or testing.

Some agreement. The unions give up their lawsuits, and the City agrees to allow people whose religious or medical exemptions that have been denied to appeal that decision. In addition if you're denied, you may be able to extend your leave without pay before you're fired. Sheesh, where did the unions find such tough negotiators?

True enough, but these frightened little union bosses don’t control the members.

Wont the new mayor be in place by then?

That’s religious exemption. See my first post here ever. And read the following link along with the second (newer) case it mentions.

https://www.ecfr.gov/current/title-29/subtitle-B/chapter-XIV/part-1605

Don’t be bamboozled about what constitutes a “religious” belief. The EEOC itself refers to the above definition, even in the context of vaccine mandates. Google yourself. You’ll see.

Why would the unions go to great lengths to negotiate on behalf of a small minority of their members?

Why would I want leave without pay?

The wife and kids gotta eat, no? Will they get welfare?

At least they’re not being paid to loaf around...

uummm Isn't that the point of being in a Union?

Why would a union go to great lengths to protect one officer who was suspended do to drug use? But they do.

You pay dues to the union to protect you

Nicely done. The link provides people a way to use the religious exemption as outlined by the federal government itself.

Employers firing employees for not taking the jab will be violating the 1964 Civil Rights act, which is the golden fleece for liberals.

In order to initiate a job action, a union would need to hold a vote among its members.

Do you think a union's members are going to authorize a job action if most of them are compliant sheep who have already acquiesced and done what they were told by the NYC government?

I prefer, “The Unions sold out their constituents”. It's time for Unions to go away.
